I call bullshit right now. Not because Superman can NOT kill Magneto, but because Superman DOESN'T KILL! Especially not in such a nonchalant way! (Unless its Superboy-Prime or Kal-L).

Plenty of them are AU's you know. And some of the comics are simply him knocking them out.
Of course, I guess I am idealizing Supes a bit too much.

The movies and Animated series ARE AU. As for the Golden Age Superman... That one IS a bona-fide dick.

Possibly. But the "Man of Steel" movie did a far better job at portraying how killing Zod would affect Superman. The guy is traumatized and broken. In the older films, he kills Zod almost non-challantly. That might be in line with the Golden Age Superman, but not the MODERN Superman!

The movies were trying to be as close to the original as possible. And I find it hard to feel bad for the original Zod...
