Tour Guide Quotes:

“Metriacanthosaurus fossils were originally classified as a species of Megalosaurus from remains found in Oxford Clay in the UK.”

“Metriacanthosaurus is a medium sized theropod that once hunted across Europe. Her name means ‘moderately spined lizard’ in reference to the spines on its vertebrae.”

Day 7 and today we have a special treat. A dinosaur that is among the most elusive creatures in the Jurassic Park franchise: Metriacanthosaurus. While this European Jurassic predator wasn't featured in either of Michael Crichton's novels, it was listed as one of the animals that was planned to be featured in John Hammond's ambitious theme park in the first Jurassic Park film back in 1993, an icon of the animal being seen on the brochure for it. In the film series canon, it turns out that InGen had mapped out 71% of its genome, revealed to us in the viral marketing for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom in 2018. However, Dennis Nedry's sabotage would mean this animal wouldn't be cloned until after the fall of Jurassic Park. In 2015's Jurassic World, it was revealed through that film's viral marketing that Simon Masrani had cloned this species for exhibition in his dinosaur theme park, the titluar Jurassic World. However, three years after the park's shutdown following the Indominus rex's rampage, the species would sadly slip back into extinction, unable to keep up with more successful predators such as Rexy the Tyrannosaurus rex. This dinosaur is notable for being elusive since it's always been said to exist in the film lore, but we've yet to see it in the flesh. It isn't the most cryptic dinosaur in JP film lore, however. That honor (I guess? lol) goes to Segisaurus. Outside of the film lore, Metriacanthosaurus has been featured in toy form in Mattel's Fallen Kingdom toyline, and two video game appearances in recent years: Jurassic World The Game and Jurassic World Evolution. While I would love to see another medium-sized theropod dinosaur on the big screen, I doubt we'll be seeing this species anytime soon. However, maybe we'll get to see it in Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. If they can include Ceratosaurus, then I say they should include the Metri as well
