I think those commenting here are missing the whole point of corsetting and waist training. I can't tell you how often this comes up the first thing anyone says is how much the think it's going to hurt. Lacing is aa gradual thing, you start off lacing in say 2 inches then slowly day by day close the corset over a period of time, then you get a smaller corset and start all over again. If you were to lace down 6 to 8 inches all at once certainly that would hurt, but if you take 6 months to a year to do the same thing ther is no pain. To repeat the old quotation "If it hurts your doing it wrong."

There are a lot of misconceptions out there, I agree. When I make a corset for someone, I always emphasize that it shouldn't hurt, EVER, and I also state that several places on my web site. I just usually try to take the comments in stride, and realize that the vast majority of people would never want to undertake the practice of tightlacing. I got tired of trying to explain it to everyone who's not really interested. One of the less-talked about misconceptions of waist training, though, is that it's very easy to do accidentally. All it takes is consistently wearing a corset, and the average person will find after time that they need a corset with a little smaller waist for it to stay put. I don't know how many reenactment enthusiasts I've encountered who complained that their corset was suddenly "too big" or "must have stretched" because all their other clothes still fit perfect, but the corset no longer did.
