I love this! I'm actually planning on doing this cosplay at some point next year.
I must ask, how did you make the headdress?

Thanks! I really want to redo my headdress, since it needs a lot of cleanup, but that's a project for another day!

I'm poor and I lack skills with tools and crafting, so my method kept it cheap and simple. The base of the headdress is foam built onto a wide headband and then covered and painted. The beads are hand-strung. They were knotted together and glued to form the pattern on the forehead. The old ear bubbles (seen here) were likewise foam, however, they didn't look good and I made new ones out of extra large plastic easter eggs. You can see the new ones here:

Still not perfect, but much better.

The hair is made out of a super long hair extension folded over a black backing, glued in place, and trimmed. Frankly, this only turned out so-so. If you find a better way, please share!! I was considering horse hair, but don't know anything about it.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. Also, I made this a long time ago: [link]
Not very helpful, but it's something.

Good luck! If you finish your cosplay, link me a picture?

This looks fantastic. Are you in Rebel Legion? If not, you should be!

Thanks. And I am, although this costume needed a little work to get accepted. Still could use some work.

Amazing. You could have stepped right off of Naboo. The entire thing is just gorgeous, but I am particularly enamored with the sleeves. So well done. Bravo!

To say impecible doesn't quite scratch the surface. This is a wonderful piece of work from all ends, costumed, photographed, expression and pose...and I can tell some great heart went into that costume. Wonderful work!

Your costume is AWESOME!! Was is hard to make?

SighOfBlue In reply to enteringmymind [2010-02-10 18:25:41 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It's actually not too hard. Kimonos are quite simple in the grand scale of things. The headdress was the hardest part.

So the gown part wasn't to difficult, just the headdress. That does look hard, what was your secret? I've always wanted to make an Amidala gown but never knew how to go about the headdress, like making it stay on my head for example. Thanks for replying back!

My secret is that I am poor. XD Or rather, because I am poor and unskilled in prop-making, I have to find cheap and easy ways of doing things. The headdress has a foam base. Foam keeps its shape, but it is flexible and lightweight at the same time. The entire thing is built on top of a headband, which is how it goes on my head. And the beads in the front and the braid in the back keep it relatively balanced. If it's lightweight and balanced enough, you can get a lot of things to stay on your head.

WOW thank you so very much for taking the time to go into all that detail!! And that headpiece is built on top of just a headband, wow that is super cool! Thanks once again, I will take all that into consideration if I ever take the risk in making an Amidala headpiece.

Hey, it's no problem. It's my hobby, and I enjoy sharing it.

As a side note, those bubbles over the ear help hold it in place. They are kind of like a second headband. If you ever have a question and think I can help, you can always PM. There is also a headpiece picture in my scraps, I believe.
