Description It's been a loooooong time since I last painted Gawain - mostly, I guess, because he can be so frustrating. He never looks right! But once in a blue moon he does, and *gasp* I even managed to mix up a good colour for his precious red locks. And for once I didn't mess up the other colours either. I must have been on a roll. Question is, can I do it again? O_o

Anyway.

This was painted on a new paper (yes, for someone who sucks so much at watercolour I do possess an awful lot of paper types - I don't know when to quit, I guess?!): Schleiper Aquarelle Grain EXTRA FIN, 300 g/mΒ² - the Schleiper house brand. I really enjoyed working with it, though I expected it to be more like Grain satinΓ©. The painting is A5 size.

Media: Caran d'Ache colour pencil (Umber) for the sketch, then Blockx and Winsor & Newton watercolours.

Time: 5 hours or something? Not counting the first drawings.

Very nice! Any idea when Ragnelle will be showing up in the comic?

Eeh. Well, she'll show up when Gawain is around 21 or something, but he's just eleven right now, so um - she's all planned and everything, but this will take a little while...

Always love seeing your Arthurian art - and always lovely to see some art for these two! This is gorgeous work.

Β Goodness me but this is a very splendidly pretty image ... although I admit to looking more at Dame Ragnell than Sir Gawain, which one suspects must put me in a definite minority.Β

Well, I did draw it the other way around... Ragnell first, then Gawain. And I haven't really decided which way is up. But since I don't draw enough Gawain, I thought I'd show him off a bit .

I'm glad you like the picture! I do so rarely not make a mess of watercolours.

Β Your "messes" are more beautiful than some feted (or should that be "fetid") masterpieces I've seen; I shall not name names, but suffice it to be said that I'm not talking about anyone on divinatory.com (or anyone who lived to see the past half-century!).

Ah, but you flatter me, sir!

(I largely prefer that to being trolled, though ...)

Thank you!

I think that if anyone were to ask me what distinguishes my characters from others, I'd have to say, "their improbable hair" .

Thank you very much! They rarely come out the way I hope they will, but just this once...
