Bob... he... he is still alive, but not the same... Everyday I walk to the hospital Β a match box full of matches with me. I meet him every day, he appreciates my visits and smiles, I can still sense the old Bob from his manners but he is... the shadow of himself... he can't walk right now, but that's least of our worries... he doesn't fix stuff anymore but empty the match box to the table next to his bed and I give the box to him and ask him to fix it... Maybe he plays along or maybe his mind thinks that it's something... he always looks at meΒ condescendingly but still friendly, he is not mocking me, he is just happy to "help"... So he fills the match box, closes it and gives it to me and always says something like "now it should work" or "every month put some oil to it and keep it safe from the sun". I can see from his eyes that he feel special and still a contributing member of the society.
I hold the my sorrow in every time I walk out and pass his window where he waves at me... unknowing what he has become...
