Got a feeling this is one of Morissey's doing so that he's gonna have to agree to that offer.

So that's it. No big plot twist. No massive change of circumstances or perspective or characterization. Why does Father start doing things Morrisey's way? Same reason people turn to loan sharks and payday lenders. Same reason (well, one of the possible reasons) abuse victims stay with their abusers. Simple desperation. They don't feel like they have any options, so they do something they know is going to go badly in the hopes that someday they'll be able to get out from under it, and in the mean time, at least they'll survive.

Oh, I'm not disappointed in your writing. Not at all. I'm sorry I came off that way.
It's just kind of sad. The reverend is just stuck in one of those situations where you know you're making a bad decision but the only other option you can think of is to do nothing, which would be even worse.

Seeing how characters whether the storm can be as interesting as seeing them escape or overcome it. We know that eventually these characters get to "Retribution" and finally the prologue to this series, but seeing the journey they take to get there can be incredibly worthwhile—even if it's also heartbreaking.
