They took everything from me. No trace of them remained, whisked away by their crimson smoke and choking dust.

There was no comfort for me, no warm embrace, nothing. Only the chilled, humid air and unsettling silence could accompany me anymore. That night was one of the longest in my life.

The only friend I had was a discarded spear-- the only thing I could find left from my family.

I made a hollow life learning everything I could by myself: what to eat, where to sleep, and how to defend myself from them. It was empty, but it was still life. I was alive.

With time I grew complacent with my situation, or so I had thought.

I don't know what led me onto the ship. Maybe some other part of me knew it would spirit me away to some other place. Maybe it didn't. I don't know, even to this day. All I know is that I could never go back.

And that's fine. I don't want to. I could never go back, not to that life.

This is the first time in so long I have ever been in the company of another. This is the first time since then that I know what it's like to feel happy. To be happy.

I just wish I knew how to tell you.
