Description My entry for the Terrestrial Badge in the Pokemon Art League's art challenge.   For anyone who doesn't know what the the Pokemon Art League is: it's a Pokemon-themed group here where you challenge the eight "gyms" and have them assign for you to draw something specific. They will then rate your finished work and give you a score based on how well you did. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes Pokemon and is interested in improving their art.

For this challenge, I was instructed by the Terrestrial Gym Leader to draw a Camerupt using Eruption against an opponent of my choice. I decided to cast Gengar as the opponent in reference to the opening animation of the original Pokemon Red & Blue Versions.

I guess this turned out pretty decent for me, but there definitely are a few minor mistakes in this that really bother me (mostly regarding the lava and spacing), and I think I kind of screwed up the shading that I had spent so long on and accidentally blurred out the details on Camerupt's hooves after I had added the embers to make it look like the surrounding air was burning. But I drew this in Art Academy: Home Studio on my Wii U, which, as anyone who uses that app would know, doesn't let you go back and fix mistakes once you've selected a new medium to use, so there is unfortunately nothing I can do to correct these issues... Oh, well. Maybe I'm just being too pessimistic. At least the lighting against Gengar turned out pretty nice. I'm usually not very good at that.

Excellent job!  Now let's get to the judging.

Originality (20 points).  You chose a nice point-of-view for this drawing!  You can definitely tell that Camerupt is the center of this piece... and it's certainly not a Pokemon to be messed with!

Technique Used (17 points).  I give you plenty of kudos for doing this on Art Academy.  I love the heat rising from the ground and the smoke coming out of Camerupt's nostrils!

Effort (20 points).  You clearly put a lot of effort into this piece.  I think a full 20 points in this category is well earned.

Instructions (20 points).  You followed the instructions perfectly.

Harmony (15 points).  Overall, this is an amazing piece!  I feel as though some more shading could have been done on Camerupt, but other than that, everything looks superb.  Love your fire details!

Total Score:

Congratulations!  The Terrestrial Badge is yours to keep!

Alright! Thanks!
Yeah, I'm not too satisfied with Camerupt's shading myself. I had no idea where to put the shadows and light hits when it has firelight coming from both above and below at the same time. It's something I definitely need to work on, I think.

I think you managed to portray camerupt very imressively and overflowing with power. Very nice job!
