Description A three exposure HDR of the old castle at Thernberg in Austria.

Nothing lasts forever, least of all the dreams of mankind.

Update: tweaked and reworked the colors in the image. I must admit, it looks much better now. Thanks, Andreas, for taking the time !!

why isn't the castle on the top of the hill? like that they could be killed from the top of the hill...

You got a point. I guess they were to lazy to hike all the way to the top with all the stones and stuff

what exactly is HDR? i only know it in terms of computer games, where it means high dynamic range. is it the same for photography?

and why does it always deal in multiple exposures?

Nice positioning in this shot, SD. The hill draws the eye to the castle, and the castle flows down the hill, taking the eye to the rest of the scenery.

I couldn't find this castle on google

Now I did even more typos! Sorry, Tami!

Don't worry about the typos, after many years of running an IRC server, I can read around those

Thanks a lot for taking the time to take a closer look at this.
You didn't find it on google because I did a type - it's called Ruine Thernberg, not Thermberg.
Do you speal German? [link]
It is a small and not widely known castle, yet it is one of the oldest castles in Austria, dating back to 860 ! It was built in the 9th century by the "Lords of Terenberch".. Now it is so whitherd you are not allowed to enter it. Well, I wanted to try getting into it ... maybe next weekend when the weather is better

Ohhhh...thank you, SD

I speak very little German, but I do okay reading it, sometimes.

I like to read about castles and historic places, mainly because I am interested in the people and the stories behind them.

Hopefully you'll be able to get inside the castle and share some wonderful shots with us

I like the dark mood this gives me. The big curved terrain is also a plus composition-wise. Really sharp as well.

I'm assuming this was taken before snowfall, or is everything melted away already?

Thank you! This was taken today! There's no snow left, nor was there much this year.

Pretty strange. European winter this year has been almost absurd. We didnt get snow here in Norway until early February. And there is no snow left in Austria... Weird stuff. Thats how it goes though.
