Description After spending so much time drawing cartoons, I was getting a bit scared that I’d forget how to draw non-cartooney things. I needed to assure myself that I could still in fact do so. This was the result, and, I must say, I’m very pleased with the way it turned out -- despite the fact that my infuriating scanner ate all my meticulous shading (especially on Christine’s nose *facepalm*) that I spent ages on *angry*.

Yep, that would be Emmy Rossum's Christine's permanent expression.

Dearest Olivia! You ne'er cease to amaze me! This must be your chosen profession! You have the skill and precision of Raphael and Botticelli! The expression here are life-like and herald such differences in emotions, hers of awe and fear, and his inner torment and choleric.
I should strive for more realism in my drawings, but granted that patience with art is my virtue!

Perfidious Scanner! It must be akin to mine own!

Quite smashing Olivia!

I have missed you a great deal, I have been immensely swamped with schoolwork and such, I feel satisfied. Yet frustration still claims me, I wish I could find the remedy. I suppose one factor is all the people I have met here, indeed they are such exemplary outstanding people of consumate character. But the quanity has proved too much a demand of my time. You and a select few are my closest and dearest friends. I never thought that such a blessed, loving loyal friend such as you would cross my path. God bless you.

Aww… thank you so much!! I know exactly how you feel. Ever since I moved away from home and into res here at varsity, I’ve left all my friends back home and haven’t managed to make any new ones, since the only thing students here seem to be interested in is alcohol and partying until the early hours of the morning. Since neither interests me, and needless to say, my interests don’t interest them, the only friends I have at varisty are the ones I have on DA.

Seriously, if I didn’t have you to talk to, I’d probably be running around with my underwear on my head by now. So thank you, your friendship means a great deal to me!

Dearest Olivia, I could never imagine how much God would bestow such a vast blessing on me, you have been such a dear friend, really I have never met anyone so kind and loving like you! And your ebbullient spirit gives me such strength.
Konow dearsister, that my heart aches that you are in such solititude, and please know that I too share in the loneliness. You see, being home-schooled, it sets one apart form other peers, who are more intrested in clothes and parties than helping their family or studying a new subject or topic. I have a couple friends, but they are much older than me, so my only peer friends are people such as you dearest Olivia, on DA and on YT.

If I did not have you, I would be sorrowed and quite hollow in my spirit.

Your friendship is the very wealth of my soul and bones.

Thank you so much for your high words of praise.

Ah yes, practise makes perfect, that’s true with everything. The danger is that you start to see art as a chore instead of something you do for fun, which is, at the end of the day, the main object.

Agreed! Death to scanners! Everybody, grab your torches and pitchforks! (Why isn’t there an ‘angry mob’ icon on DA? There should be! Anyway, I’ll make do with this then, it’s not a pitchfork, but… )

Olivia, I am merely assessing your extraordinary artistry!

I have now seen that age-old adage has been manifesting in my art, I hope you will impressed with my new work of Melisande de Goibec- she is also a relative of the French king, now we have political intrigue, but she does not know it...and the execitioner is a bastard of a noblemn, but he knows it all too well... I know you will cringe at him, he looks quite rugged and barbaric, it cannot be helped he lives in such squalor and curde poverty...

I am too finding art to be a chore, i just wish I could perfect my art in someway...

Yes I loathe, revile and deride my scanner!! I cannot put the drawins on here because it is much too small.

Draw it because you enjoy it. If you enjoy it, that should be good enough for you. Unless you’re planning on going in for art as a career, then improvement is necessary, but I’m not, so therefore I do it only for fun. If people like it - that’s wonderful! If not, well, that’s OK by me too. I’m here on DA to have fun, not tear my hair out comparing my artistic abilities to those of professional artists who do this for a living.

Looking forward to seeing this picture!

I do enjoy it, but if only my concepts could be executed in such a fitting manner and style, you see, I have ideas for a Disney Fantasia and so much more, but my skills are rather rudiementary.
Where did you acquire such precsion and skill? And it is such awesome perspective and depth you have in your works.

For me, Da is my laboratory for my novels and artworks, but I do have such fun meeting people like you, and being able to discuss literature, opera, and life with you.
I know you will cringe at the executioner, but do not be so hard on him, he has such hellish life, the poor dear.

Ah yes, DA is fun… Laboratory? Hmmn, never thought about it that way before, but I believe it is a rather apt description.

Gee, I don’t know. Really. Whenever people ask me when I started drawing, I don’t have an answer. The truth is, I never stopped. Every child draws - most eventually stop though. I’m largely self-taught - I have a few anatomy books that I consult now and again, but mostly I just reference photos and pictures. I have a collection of interesting looking pics, and even use some of our family photos. You’d be surprised at the good material for poses you could find there. ^^,

Ah yes, we know each other too well here by now. But I will indeed give the executioner a chance. I do see your point, you know, and by the sounds of his nasty life story, he could certainly do with someone cutting him a little slack.

To me, it is liken to laboratory, since I may recive feedback and correpsondnece in improving my works, and gaining opinons about my novels and OCs.

I have used various art book, Raphael panitings, and other artists' work for inspiration in my works, but really itis justpractice, poses and dimensions are my weaknesses.

I will take your advice on using photos, you will neve belive this, but yesterday I was tracing photos of Dmitri to really capture, but he ended up looking so ugly, not all his manly beauty, that fierce Tatar beauty he has!

The executioner's name is Paul, but people just call him Death or Beast....

You are such a dear friend Olivia!!!! God bless you for all this! i could chat all day with you! Please pardon me if I sound silly or too sentinmental.

Thank you so much! Although, personally, I think the shading is despicable. Have I mentioned yet how much I hate my scanner…?

And I wish I was as good as you with the colourings. OK, here’s the plan - you hand me some of your colouring skills and I hand you some of my pencil skills.
