Description My first attempt at snowflake-photography,
inspired by s wonderful snowflake pics (if you want to see some truly great snowflakes, go and visit her gallery ).

It wasn't easy because it is actually too warm for snow right now, and the snowflakes kept melting before I had a chance to get camera and tripod into position. Still, I wouldn't have wanted to miss this experience. I'll never see snow the same way again.

Never seen a snowflake this close. Actually, never seen snow at all but that's not the point...

It's fascinating, isn't it? I never thought snowflakes would look like that until I saw them through my macro lens.

Frankly I never thought I'd see one snowflake this close. It's incredible that they have those patterns.

Snowflakes are really amazing, especially since they all have different patterns. I never thought they'd look so lovely (actually, I never thought about how snowflakes might look like until I saw some macro pics of them on DA ).

so this shot was taken with a regular macro lens? You didn't have a magnifier on it?? It's amazing!!

SilivrenTinu In reply to AdmiralAngela [2009-12-18 10:49:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it was taken with a regular macro lens (the Raynox DCR-150, to be exact). Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it!

they always do though, because they are best captured at slightly warmer temperature

SilivrenTinu In reply to photofairy [2009-12-16 17:01:16 +0000 UTC]

Really? I'll have to remember that! It's a very good thing for me, since the winters here aren't very cold.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

photofairy In reply to SilivrenTinu [2009-12-16 17:05:40 +0000 UTC]

yes, apparently they are best captured at +3 degrees celsius, which also makes them melt. i know, we have pretty warm winters here too, snow maybe once or twice a year

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SilivrenTinu In reply to photofairy [2009-12-17 08:52:02 +0000 UTC]

We got some snow several days ago, but until I had camera and tripod and macro lens ready, there were only drops left to take photos of. I've left the camera mounted on the tripod now in the hope of being faster next time.
