One of my favorite scenarios and I love sinking into clayey morasses! I, too, really like how I imagine the contraction cracks signal a solid surface then I find it is not as it seems... the element of surprise --real or feigned-- is exquisite fare for loving sinkers! I like the woman's surprise you drew here.
I like how the cracks fade/subside to become the soup the lady's in.... very natural. The darker colors immediately around her suggesting different strata of underlying sediments is visually effective and happens often.
Sinking into silt and clay is a very nice pastime on a hot summer or early fall day... slowly sinking... fun to pull yourself out then re-immerse and watch your and/or your companion's goo-covered bodily forms slowly and smoothly melt back in submersion. Usually these places are free of danger like snags, stubble, shells, like in tidal flats. Unless you really, really know these places, losing the shoes is advisable, especially where these places are really thick and gooey (where the slowness of sinking can be absolutely scrumptious!)

Just an amateur physicist.
I'm just relating the appearance of the mire rendered here to sediments I've sunken into where the top few inches have become very dry and cracked to make a thick enough top region that I cannot sink into the mud. With this, I would grab a clay block by an edge (formed by one of the cracks) and I'd dislodge it whole and, when I lift it out, it has a bottom that is smooth. I toss the mud block aside and grab another one and lift it out, then another and another. The area I reveal, where the blocks are removed is a smooth moist surface... it is closer to the table of water that saturates the mud so I step onto this lowered surface and find I can sink. Deep sediment (alluvial areas and lake beds) accumulate from many 'campaigns' of silt being dropped to bottoms and alluvia surfaces and variations of materials in the silt cause layers of different colors to develop. Too, the top of mud exposed to the air and its impurities and to organic matter often has much different coloration from the mud beneath.
I agree our lady does not scrumptiate because she's not a connoisseur and she has no control of a situation where she will smother. It's a pity.

Wow, interesting!! Just throw those dumb dry blocks out of the way and expose a fun mud bath! You do make it sound much more fun than this poor lass (pictured here) is making it out to be!!

Thanks! I never realized how cool a cracked-surface lakebed could be until I played on one myself. A lot of mud looks dry and cracked on the surface, which is a pain to draw, but looks cool I think!

Outstanding piece and a great storyline! The stories you provide add so much to your drawings, and it's great to hear she was wearing shoes that provided something for the mud to form a suction around.
I do like your application of muddy suction and tenacity to ensure your damsels are stuck, trapped, and unable to go anywhere but down deeper into the mire.
Her facial expression is wonderful, the thickness of the mud looks great, and I like the sound effects you add.
Any idea what she's wearing? I like the fact your damsels wear clothes, even if they do go wading out on the mud in panty briefs at times.
Thanks for sharing!

She's about to slip under. Perhaps I should help?

The young woman kind of looks like Super Girl from DC comics

No, I'd say the art style is similar to some of the heads in the PS238 comic. But yes, Supergirl should get some quicksand. She does have a secret identity- would she blow it and save herself, or start sinking and hope _she_ gets rescued?

Love the detail work, depicting the sun-baked surface. Nice work
