Description
Also known as lesser gnolls and (incorrectly) as kobolds, domestic gnolls have found their way into seemingly every settlement imaginable.
Physical Description: Domestic gnolls are small canine creatures, resembling more a humanoid fox or a dingo than a hyena, as with their brutish forbears. They tend to have large eyes suited for dim light, and their ears are large and point straight up normally. The fur color ranges mostly from a light “blonde” to a dark, dusty brown, though black, white and grey furred versions are not unknown. Interestingly, heterochromia is rather prevalent for Domestic Gnolls.
Society and Relations: Domestic gnolls are mercilessly hunted and killed by ‘wild’ gnolls, which has led them to become very integrated with other humanoid societies. They tend to be cheap workers, willing to do the jobs others won’t do, but they excel in the service industry, as well as the crafting professions. Domestic gnolls tend to emphasize families and clans very much in their social hierarchy.
As stated previously, Domestic Gnolls tend to integrate themselves into whatever their “host” society is, though they do tend to set up small enclaves, similar to a “Chinatown”. While adherent to the laws of the city or nation, each enclave has their own personal rules and laws. These enclaves typically are governed by elders or by figures of societal note, like influential smiths or take-charge neighborhood protectors.
Domestic Gnolls tend to get along with most, if not all major races on a race-to-race basis. The issues tend to crop up depending on the society they find themselves in. For example, the Principality puts them somewhere just above non-Lycanthropic people, but just under Skinwalkers, treating as a sort of better-than-second-class second class citizen.
Alignment: Domestic gnolls tend toward the Lawful alignments, as they are repulsed by wild gnolls, and wish to ingratiate themselves to their hosts.
Adventuring: Domestic gnolls tend to turn their noses up on their family members that take up adventuring, unless they take up arms to provide and defend their clan. Since they themselves are small and unimposing, they tend to eschew melee. However, domestic gnolls enjoy taking mounts, such as riding dogs and wolves. Their natural abilities make them excellent rangers, as well as gunslingers, and these professions are very much respected and prized by the clans.
