Description View towards Glen Etive from the Glencoe Road. I swear I've never driven along a more awe-inspiring road.

This is also my first real foray into HDR. I've tried with Photoshop before now but couldn't get the effect I was looking for, but after a bit of inspiration on here, I've given Photomatix a try, and this is the first result

First off amazing shot, I really love the composition and I wish I could take a trip there now myself. The grass in the foreground is really sharp and non blurry which can be a pain sometimes with multiple exposures. The mountains and the road as well are very sharp and as a whole I think you did a good job with the contrast and saturation. It has enough color to stand out without being over the top.
If you're a fan of the dark and grainy HDR look disregard the following. The only thing I would work on is the clouds and sky. There is a lot of noise in places and well as some really dark shadows on some of the clouds. As someone who is guilty of this in 90% of my old HDR photos it's something I'm trying to learn to manage it a bit using Lightroom. You mentioned you have Photoshop so I would try using some of the tools available in there to try and reduce a bit of noise and lighten up some of the extremely dark clouds. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank you.Β I'm still trying to work out exactly which HDR look I like particularly so I think I'm going to be doing a lot of experimenting. I see what you mean about the clouds and that is something I wasn't sure about, so I'm definitely going to take another look at it and see what else I can come up with.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me some feedback. It's been really useful and I really appreciate it

Well I'm glad you found that helpful and I know the cloud thing is very subjective when it comes to HDR. I used to be a big fan of it myself but lately I've been going back to redo some of my old manipulations and find I prefer cutting back on the extreme shadows and grain in the sky. Anyways good luck to you and I look forward to seeing your work.

Good job, love the composition, but it has a little too much of that post processed look to it. Β Not a bad try for your first HDR though. Β If you want to try photoshop again, I use a technique that gives you a little more control than programs like photomatix give, and it doesn't add that artificial look to it either.

Thanks. Having experimented with a couple of images since this one I'm thinking of running it through photomatix again to see what other finish I can come up with, but how do you create your images in Photoshop?

Yeah I do. Cool thank you, that's awesome!Β I'd never have thought of doing HDR that way- I've just had a quick go and that's definitely something I want to have another go at! That extra control that you get is so useful.

Yeah I went through several different methods too, but I find that that one gives you the best control, and it's pretty easy too. Β I can whip out a 7 exposure HDR in minutes now
