I like that all of the girls actually have outfits practical for ninja, since often people give them too frilly or revealing outfits that they couldn't fight in at all, let alone walk.
I do like Ten Tens hakama like pants and the Chinese top individually, but I don't think they go together all that well. The top looks like it needs tighter pants to go with it, and the hakama like pants would look better with more Japanese style top. I do like that you didn't make the cut out on the chest too large, since now it's sexy, but if it was larger it would look trashy and offer less support to her breasts. I also like the fact that the pants allow her to kick, jump, climb and move freely, I also like the fact that they are not ancle lenght, since this lenght they have now decreases the risk of her stepping on the edge of the pant leg. Her wrist guards are also great looking and they kind of seem like they would offer some protection to her arms if she needs to block a kunai with them.
What I remember of your fic and the characterization of Shikako, the outfit seems to suit her personality well, since I'm kind of remembering her being practical and stuff like that. The tight pants look great with a slightly longer top like she is wearing and I like that you gave her undershirt, since the top seems like it just ties at the side, so if the ties break or the knots get undone she won't be showing off her underwear to everybody. I like the way the green top looks like and the pattern at the hem, it looks very much like something a Naruto character would wear, without being too similar to any canon outfits. I like her boots and the leg guards, they make the outfit look interesting and are actually practical. I also like that she wears gloves, since those would help with grip, but people just often don't even consider giving them to characters.
You have one of the few designs for older Hinatas outfit that actually looks like what she would wear, without being a shapeless jacket or kimono/yukata, since lot of people give Hinata too sexy or stylish outfits, when she is very shy and would probably never be comfortable in sexy outfits, and despite being kind, shy and soft-spoken she actually isn't very feminine or fashion conscious like many people seem to think of her. I like that you keep the wire-mesh at the collar, since it's definately something that should be part of Hinatas outfits, and it also makes her top less revealing by covering her cleavage. The long sleeved and hemmed light purple top is very basic in shape and covers enough for me to believe Hinata bought it by herself, not because Sakura or Ino told her it would look great on her. I also like her jacket, since Hinata obviously likes wearing them, but this isn't a shapeless one like she usually wears, but has kind of traditional Japanese jacket feeling to it, which also makes it seem like something Hinata would pick herself. I also like the sash/obi she wears, since I can believe that older and slightly more confident Hinata would wear one to slightly emphasize her figure, but still leave enough of it mystery to make her feel comfortable about being out in public wearing it. I like that you gave her slightly tighter fitting pants and the hems have unique shape that makes them stand out from other similary fitting pants.
Sakuras coat looks great. The different colors and the way they are positioned on the coat make it very interesting looking. I also like the fact that it's shorter on the front, but longer at the back, which is very practical, since the coat doesn't limit her leg movement at all this way. I also like the gloves, boots and pants you gave for her, since they are simple and plain black, which goes well with such a complicated looking coat and doesn't make the design look too detailed for Naruto style.
Inos wire-mesh bodysuit(or is it a top and pants?) makes the design look less revealing and gives it more mature look, since that dress would actually reveal a lot and probably even look slightly skanky if it was against bare skin. I also like that you didn't try to make her dress into two part outfit that would reveal the midrif like a lot of people make older Inos outifts, since I find midriff baring outfits very childish looking, like what a teenage girl would pick in an attempt to look sexy, not what an actual grown up would wear in an attempt to achieve the same effect. The cut outs on the sides and the low neckline work much better in making the outfit look sexy, but also seem practical and grownup looking.

I did want to keep Tenten with the chinese-themed outfit style that she has going on, but Bleach has influenced me so I also like the idea of her in the hakama, because I think that's the kind of 'formal' or 'fancy' that would appeal to appeal to her. XD I agree that they don't really mix that well together though. The top is a bit exaggerated, which isn't really helped by the folded arm pose there. I did kind of think that the wrist guards might have storage seals on them, or something to that effect as an extra boost, but that level of detail doesn't really make it in.
This was one of my original ideas for how Shikako would look - kinda simple, maybe a little fancier, but with that touch of added protection with the gloves and shin guards. She's definitely the type to pick practicality over style, but with the shirt under the wrap I think it actually works pretty well from a 'what would people actually wear' standpoint. She tends to look a little rougher in my other drawings, but I still have fondness for this design.
I'm glad you liked Hinata's outfit, it's the one I think hits the mark most, apart from maybe Ino. I agree with you in that Hinata would never really be confident in the type of gear she's sometimes drawn in. At most, I think this is a little more 'open' than her heavy jacket, but it's very layered and not really more revealing. I like the idea that she picks up a little more 'traditional formal' as she steps into the role of heir more, but she dresses very modernly compared to the other Hyuuga, so it wouldn't be very much - hence the nod to it with the jacket and obi.
I have to admit Sakura's coat is pretty much directly lifted from the Mass Effect doctors. XD But I loved it, and I thought it would work pretty well with her.
I think Ino's dress has the mesh panels on it, with the addition of leggings underneath. It's actually based off one that I saw in the shops - way more scandelous looking in RL.

Ten Ten does seem to really like her Chinese tops, so keeping that as a part of her design is a good choice. I do also think that Ten Ten would like hakama, but she would probably wear them with a kimono/kimono like top, since stylistically hakama don't really work with anything else. For an exaggerated top this one still looks rather reasonable. Storage seals make so much sense, I just didn't even think of them, because the only one to put storage seals in such sensible place is Sasuke, so I kind of didn't even think of the possibility of some fan remembering they can be put on things other than scrolls.
This is really good design for her, so having it be her older look for example allows you to keep this type of outfit, without needing to redesign the clothes she wears as genin, since those are actually really good designs as well. I like the fact that you consider what people would be willing to wear in a setting like Naruto, where the outfits can be quite crazy looking, but still be practical, since it seems like everybody just gives the characters cool looking outfits that wouldn't stay on or allow them to lift their arms up at all.
I hate it how people seem to think that older Hinata would suddenly become sexy and wear revealing outfits, when shyness is obviously very natural part of her personality and she still would have been shy even if she was born to a civillian family and never chosen to become a ninja, so she just won't ever be comfortable in outfits like that. The heavy and shapeless jackets she wears in canon and which is the other extreme of her outfit designs, just looks absolutely horrible on such a shapely girl like her, since it just makes her look fat, which probably just makes her more conscious of the way she looks like and causes her to pick even baggier jackets, so to me her wearing slightly more fitted clothes that aren't revealing is the sign that Hinata has become more confident person. Traditional, but with modern touches, suits Hinata well as a style for the reasons you state.
Didn't know Mass Effect doctors have coats like that, since I'm not really a gamer, but it does suit Sakura really well.
I don't have anything agains midrif baring outfits either, they just look very childish on grown women (eccept for things like traditional Indian tops and such, which do tend to have wery different cuts and seem to cover much more than they actually do), so I don't like to see them as a part of older designs of canon characters who I like to think as being more mature and having better senses of style. The outfit does look very sophisticated and it does make Ino seem very confident in how good looking she is, but also shows that Ino has grown as a person and thinks more practically now, you know common sense before style.
I love to write huge rambling comments on other peoples deviations so of course I will get long rambly answers most of the time. 
I have fifteen Naruto ocs who desparately need redesigns, since I made the old ones in high school when I had no sense of style, so I totally understand not wanting to redraw and redesign some pic, even if you kind of feel the need to. I'm only happy with the designs of five of the ocs, but they still could use some improvement and more variation in facial features.

Have you seen some of the new movie designs? I like them, even if Tenten's is surprisingly more girly than her previous outfits. She does appear to be wearing... giant tape bracelets? Or something? I assume they are retractable sealing scrolls, but who knows. They just look like a tape dispenser to me. Anyway, that aside, I think seals are super handy to have in various locations on your person, especially if you can make them yourself. I saw one fic where Tenten could miniature-ise them onto a ribbon, which I thought was a really neat idea, in itself, and very practical.
As far as anime designs go, Naruto isn't really that far from 'practical'. I mean, you have Tsunade's gratuitous cleavage, and maybe Mei's 'how does that stay on' dress, but most of the clothes aren't too extreme. And the question of the weather, if Ino and Hinata are both comfortable in the same setting... *cough* but I think that one is for ninja magic to answer.
Poor Hinata. Actually, she seemed pretty confident when she was wearing the Shinobi vest, but that was probably also due to the fact that everyone was wearing it, no exceptions. I could see her being more comfortable in a uniform because it didn't single her out.
I probably will re-sketch them all at some point, though maybe not this 'scene' again. They all go through various changes anyway, so it's good practice.

I have seen the movie designs and they are very good looking and I'm really hoping the movie is good, because if it's horrible like some of the worse movies, the designs will be wasted on that, and peoples association with the good designs will be negative.
Ten Ten has one of the best older designs I have seen, since the design keeps her buns and the Chinese influenced top, and the whole thing is still pretty practical to wear, but gives older, more mature and feminine feel to her. They are probably sealing scrolls, but you are right that they look like tape dispensers.
Seals are really useful, most Naruto fans just forget how useful they could be or they make the seals into ridiculously over powered and able to do anything, like I read a fic where the character could write seals in air and use them to control gravity in the area, which is so ridiculously over powered and doesn't make sense, since it seems like you actually need to draw/touch something to apply seals and allowing the seals to be placed on non-solids makes them too powerful.
Naruto does have rather sensible outfits, but looking at most ocs you would never believe it, since sometimes it seems like the oc makers have a competition of who manages to make the most impractical outfit ever for their oc. The anime team was at least smart enough to make Tsunades cleavage more covered by having her top fit slightly higher, because I used to think of Tsunades cleavage as huge, but then my sister bought the manga with Tsunade in the cover and I saw that originally she had even more impossible cleavage. Meis dress is impossible, but if I pretend it has corseted bodice and she tapes it to her breasts it might just barely work, though she shouldn't be able to fight in it without flashing her boobs to every one. I think that Hinata feels too warm most of the time and the reason why she faints so often is partly because of her shyness and partly because she is over heated. I'm also pretty sure that Ino and Sakura are sometimes feeling bit chilly in their outfits, but they both like to look pretty and would probably wear too little clothes and justify it to themselves as it hardening them to colder weather.
Hinata does probably like the uniform because of the reasons you gave, but it's extremely rare for anyone to actually make older Hinata wear the uniform, or she wears the uniform, but customized to be incredibly sexy, which is the huge problem with future designs of Hinata.

i have been reading DoS since about chapter 10, and after reading the last chapter that was posted i decided to reread the whole story and to look at some of the fanart. i agree on some of the critics regarding tenten and shikako, but i think you nailed what i picture hinata, sakura, and ino to look like; i also love shikako's leg armor. i enjoy how you leave mostly what they wear and how they look up to our interpretation, but help us along the way with your art.

Everybody seems to be bashing it, so I'd just like to say I, for one, rather like Sakura's outfit. It makes sense, since it looks like a uniform, and the medic-nin we see from the hospital look like they actually wear something appraoching a uniform (as opposed to the mishmash everyone else seems to wear). Tenten's is, I agree, a little out of character. She usually dresses more conservatively than most of the GUYS, so it's a bit strange seeing her like this. Ino's... is actually rather nice. Not as good as Sakura's, I think, but it basically fits her, and I suppose the slightly-better protection fits her brush with death.
Shikako actually... I don't think she'd wear something like this, not normally anyway. Looks a bit too formal. It'd stick out too much in most situations.
Hinata's is a slightly more 'open' outfit than her canon counterpart, which fits how she seems to be more developed, plotwise, this time around. I wonder if we'll be seeing her confession sans a stabbing, eh?

Thanks! I was kind of going for a lab coat-y look for Sakura - very much inspired by Mass Effect doctors, I must admit - blended with her normal red and white. YMMV as to whether it looks good, apparently. XD
Tenten, I wanted to put in hakama, just because. The top... well, feedback is great. Next time I'll do better. Ino's is based on a dress I actually saw in a shop - which looked terribly scandalous in RL but the mesh panels made me nerd out. Plus leggings because all the others are wearing pants and it looked odd otherwise. XD
For Hinata, I tried to stick with the 'formal' aspect, with a haori, obi and fitted pants. It's still covering, but in a more... layered way.
Its not necessarily what they're going to wear, but I tend not to specify in writing, so you can pick and chose which ones you like. XD

Not overall terrible, although I have to admit I find Sakura and Tenten's outfits... odd. They just don't really seem like the sort of thing those two would wear normally - Sakura's looks a little OOC, and Tenten wearing something so... provocative seems unlike her (both the breasts and the long dress don't seem quite appropriate for combat situations). Besides that, I also can't place the context - Tenten looks anything but ready for combat, Sakura looks like a Power Rangers/Super Sentai heroine, and the others look like normal ninja. It's... odd. And a little uncomfortable.
Umm... sorry I can't give the tick of approval like everyone else. I just don't like this one much.

That's okay, nothing says you have to like it. X) Tenten's pants are supposed to be hakama (i.e. like Bleach shinigami), though admittedly the keyhole cleavage on the top might be a bit much. There wasn't any overall grand plan with it. *shrug*

Huh... no wonder I didn't notice, the line between the leggings is mightily difficult to see unless you're looking for it. That's how I see it, at least.
Is Shikako's outfit here going to be here new, post-timeskip/Shippuden clothing? That would be pretty cool, and it would suit her well.
I don't dislike it all though - just Sakura and Tenten's outfits. The latter mostly grates because I get enough irritation with anime artists for their shameless Fanservice attempts, and yeah, for me it's definitely too much. The former seems OOC - especially because she's a medic rather than an outright genin. Don't see why she'd need something like that (especially so anachronistic) when she's not a front-liner (unlike in canon).
How's the next chapter going, anyway? Looking forward to it. And I'll actually try to review this time - I've been reading DoS since the 50's chapters, about time I started commentating (not that you need it, but still, my laziness at times annoys even me).

I don't tend to specify what anyone is wearing, it usually comes across as clunky in writing, unless there's some special need for it, so it could be. XD Mostly I was just playing around with outfits, without any real goal.

I think the only face that's sort of bothering me is Hinata's. Given the pose (she's doing that finger thing, right?) the expression is a bit...aggressive. It's a little weird.
But other than that, they're all pretty awesome. Outfits are very nice as well. Good colors, lovely designs.
