I wish, casting still eludes me. These are 3D printed.

Do you have to make them wear a wig? Or can you just root their hair?? Like poke holes in the head cap and such to root the hair? How hard is the plastic? It's a dumb question, but I would rather root it them make them wear a wig. How would the tail work anyway? Because I want to make my own custom Dr. Whooves and maybe a my little pony cyberman-pony. And do you think any type of wig would work on these because on your etsy all I see them wearing are mohair wigs...

I do not know much about rooting hair, but it should be possible, the plastic can easily be drilled into since it is thin. Just leave 2-3 mm space between holes to prevent breaking and drill/dremel, slowly as the plastic will melt with the heat and friction. when I get more time come january or so i hope to talk to some pony custom creators on how to root and work out a rooting system, but that is only wehn I get some time and January would be the earliest if not 3-5 months from now.
i am having a pony sale for the holidays till January 8th at my etsy though so it would be a good time to play. If you do a lot of custom ponies i am looking into hiring or getting some pony creators together.

its a 3D animation program thing. I don't have it, but I've seen videos made with it on youtube.

ah, an animating program. Well it would be easier to use the original file then not the ball jointed one unless you want it to look like a doll.

I so so love this doll! I'll be buying one tomorrow! I hadn't even thought of an mlp bjd (that's a lotta letters xD) but this is such a better alternative to the custom sculpt that I had been planning to order and not very much more expensive! Not to mention it's just a beautiful doll in and of itself. Your joints and articulation are simply gorgeous.
I do have a few questions though. First, how do they react to acetone? I ask mostly out of curiosity. Also, can the be easily un-strung? I watched you video on youtube and mostly because of the lack of head-cap, it seemed like the were intended to be strung permanently. It also seems like you used nylon string?
It's usually easier it do a full body blush (like you would have to on a pony) if you un-string the doll first, but I've never worked with this material before so maybe it's easier? How do you get into the joints without taking it apart first?

I would be very gentle with acetone, Some people use it to help clean or smooth the surface a little, but I do not think it is the right kind of plastic for that at lease from what little I have read. It is a nylon based plastic so... I dunno, The material is porous so using it to remove items would be tricky.
I cut the cord at the not so you would have to get more string and restring it. If you have ever strung a doll, then these guys are a walk in the park. Really simple, thought the hooves, up the body through a built in loop at the head and down the body and leg to the other side and tie at built in rod of the other hoof. Same thing for back etc. I use beading cord, .7mm that I get in the kids craft section at walmart. It's called bead n Stretch and has a pink lable white plastic spool. If you ask during checkout I can throw in some extra cord for ya for free.
I have done the blush fully strung and unstrung, it is just harder to seal the pastels with the spray if it is strung with the tensions and parts sitting in each other. Dye works well too just for your info. So easiest would be to unstring and do the full body pastel, paint etc, then seal and restring.

Oh, some extra cord would be lovely. And yes, I've restrung dolls before, I do all the restringing for my friends when it needs to be done since they're scared of it.
The dyeing worries me a bit though. Isn't the hot water a little too much for the plastic? I also have a pale yellow pony so dyeing might be a little hard to get the right color. It is tempting though, to not have to worry about the blushing wearing off.

they love the dyes at least so I am told and they do the RIT kinda dye at the company that does my 3D printing for a few select colors. No yellow though.
Hmm yeah if it is a very pale or soft yellow I would think blush would be easier to get the right color. My blushing has held really well though so far as long as you use your clear fixative that is. Even along the joints.

Hmm well I'll think about it. It's not like I don't have time xD Your input has been very helpful.
By the way, I looked around DA and I was only able to find pics of one of your ponies done by an owner. I was really interested in seeing what people did with them and was quite disappointed. Does anyone ever send you pics of their finished ponies?

no it was one of my ball jointed dolls, and not a pony,...So kinda worse since it was my own design/creations.

Well 3D printing isn't cheap. On the flip side for a bjd (ball jointed doll) it is very cheap.
