Omg! Is that a monitor??? O.O *loves* I want a Nile Monitor, which he sorta looks like, but I don't think he is... Precious things! ^.^ I love their necks and how they flick out their (usually) white tongues. lol... ^.^ Cute!

Yay monitors! I just had to buy new cage clips for mine, he kind of busted through the wire. He's a savannah, getting pretty big. Definitly fun to walk on the leash, a bit stubborn though.
Yours looks like a Nile? Maybe? I'm just guessing with all that color. Kind of hard when they're babies...

Monitors are so much fun! Savannahs are such sweeties! I... reptile sat? one for a friend for several weeks. 
Actually, he was an Asian monitor. They look so similarly to Niles when they're littler! Unfortunately, he succumbed to the pneumonia he had when I got him and passed away. I saw him crammed up in the tiniest cage in a reptile show, laboring to breathe, in unclean conditions, no heating and poor lighting. With the mucus bubbling out of his nose, his eyes clamped shut, collapsed in an awkward position, one could immediately tell the poor guy was sick. He was the worse off of all the babies, and I felt so horribly. I reported the vendor for the conditions, and took the poor guy home. He was spirited, despite being ill, I thought I could help him, and I took him to the vet to get antibiotics and any other medications he might need. They told me that the pneumonia was so far advanced and that there was nothing they could really do but make him comfortable. I tried as hard as I could to help him, medicating him everyday, giving him long soaks, forcefeeding him every day, and for about 2 months we struggled. He finally gave in though. Sorry for the long paragraph. It was such a terrible ordeal, makes me feel so worthless

Ugh, oh god that must have been tragic. Trust me, I don't mind the long paragraph. That was really nice of you to put forth so much effort to save the lizard from its conditions (sigh) unforunatly there are too many people out there who don't care. It sickens me to see that most pet stores nowadays treat their animals like they were merchandise rather than living beings. My boyfriend was asked the other day when he took his chinchilla to the pet store if he wanted to trade it for another one, like it was a shirt that didn't fit. God damn humanity.

Thanks, I appreciate it. You're completely right, not enough people care. A lot of the times people think that reptiles are less of an animal than dogs or cats, or that they're low maintenace simply because they don't have to eat every day. Oh my god, they asked him if he wanted to trade it? Holy crap, I wouldn't even know what to say. I would just be... stunned they'd ask something like that.

Have you been offering him live prey every so often? It'll be a good sign when he can eat on his own. Shoot, I don't even know what Asian monitors like to eat. *tapes up a handful of small rats, slaps a stamp on em and sends em your way anyway*

I thought the weird angle and closeup was a kind of cunny/cute way to picture him, because it looks so awkward. I have a few other shots that look that way, too, because of the way the lense changes to do macros
Actually, just yesterday I tossed a few crickets in his cage for the sake of it. I had no hopes whatsoever that he was going to eat them, so I started to turn away after I closed the top of his cage. Then he started to chase them! I was so excited! 
It's definitely a good sign that he's sort of eating on his own now. I tried to give him a few dusted crickets today, because he needs them, but he didn't like the smell of the dust... and I only had three crickets left. And he will only eat ONE type of cricket that I have to go half across the world to get. -__- He did show interest in them until he sniffed them, so maybe force-feeding is no longer an issue. I hope! They like anything from roaches (ugh... the thought of having to buy feeder roaches...), to worms, to crickets, and the occasional piece of turkey and baby meeces. He doesn't really seem to like dead food, which is weird. He's certainly picky. Once he's gotten a little better, I'll give him a pinkie to munch on or something, something... fleshy!

In regards to him only eating one type of cricket, you might try scenting other food items with those crickets. Just put the food item in with those crickets for a time and then offer it to him to see if he likes it better.

SO CLOSE!! He's an Asian Water Monitor, but omg! Your guess was soooo close. They look like, exactly alike. He's soooo sweet. He loves scritches behind his eyes and ear rubs. He also likes his sides scratched. He's sick, though. I'm workin' really hard to get him better again. The unfortuante thing is, with reptiles, they don't get better quickly.
Gorbash'll be one of those rare monitors you hear about that act like doggies, and scratch at the door when they want out, and climb into your lap for pets.

hehehehehehehe. He's cute. You should give him an extra dose of RepCal calcium and vitamins, also they do have something on the market...it's like a reptile saving dose with all these nutrients n stuff. It puts all these nutrients in their body--but it says for like emergency use only if they're like...so hungry their wastin away.
He's cute. I KNEW he was SOME kind of monitor! Pretty boy. pretty pretty pretty. He seems very happy! did you get him from the Hurricane Expo? Heard that wasi n Florida---Reptiles Magazeine said so, if not...then ignore me.

Yep, yep. I've got some liquid calcium that I put in his water, and the food I'm having to force-feed him is really rich in energy and vitamins. He puts up a horrible fight though! It smells really bad... I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to eat it, either. 
I need to find that eergency vitamin stuff... just in case. He's also been drinking Pedialyte, and that charges him up for a while.

I got him from the FIRE expo, actually. It was so fun. I love going to reptile shows. They're always so horribly crowded though. I think the Hurricane Expo was on the same days I was at the FIRE. Not sure.
When he's happy he gets this really bright glimmer in his eye, and he looks at you like an Amazon Grey looks at you; right in the eye. It's creepy

The FIRE Expo I think they renamed it the HURRICANE expo cuz of the hurricanes. He's a gorgeous baby. I need to bug you yes yes about a camera. Cameras! You need to note me what you use and where you got it cuz I think its great for animal shots--than n you're UBER talented! He's so cute--I HAVETA come over n see the lil bugger.

I knowww! It's going to be like, thrown out, because people think that snakes aren't hard to take care of and stuff. He was so cute. If he dies, I'll be very sad. It did eat, though, she got it to eat. So, maybe it won't die. Maybe.
