Oh man, the orca picture... Dang, this scan didn't quite capture the blueness of the water, but still...

When I first started this, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do in life as a career. I had found a renewed facination of orcas at the time and was just intriged by their movements in the water; actually, I was pondering on being an orca trainer. Unfortunately, training the lovely creatures would require living outside of my lovely home state and I don't think I could do that. Still, I did realize, thanks to this picture that I wanted to work with animals, in other words I wanted to become a biologist.

For the mermaid, I was trying to make her look like a mer-mammal like the mammalian orca whales, but I didn't want her to be an orca, so I found another type of dolphin...the hourglass dolphin!
