SilverLady7 — Silly Aliens

Description I did this after I saw one of Omniverse early sneak peeks, with that silly chicken alien (worse, an alien that actually BEHAVED like a chicken! 0-0)

. I thought then: “What, that´s REALLY a chicken? Now is the cartoon going to become a farm?” Okay, Ben´s aliens were based upon animals before (actually, most aliens from sci-fi are based upon some animal or legendary creature, because human mind NEEDS something where to base its fantasies). But back then, they were MIXED aliens… even those more like an animal, as the Chamalien or the vilgaxian, had other characteristics that signed him as an alien and not the TRUE animal.

Just to pick up an animal and say : “Okay, that´s an alien” is lazy.

A terrible depression caused by OV premiere kept me from scanning this (and from drawing for months) last year, but I found it recently and decided to post it, anyway.

Well as someone who's gone through depression, saying it was over a show may be a bit extreme.

I could have explained it to you, if you were one of my friends and another kind of person.

However, you don´t know me intimately, and by your edgy comments it´s obvious you´re not the kind of people
who would understand all the circunstances that led me to the dark pit.  Resuming, I don´t have to explain it to you.

Just hope that life will teach you a few good lessons and you´ll learn someday to not judge people so quickly.

Farewell.

I agree. Thing is, even when they used a single animal with slight modification (like Big Chill or Rath), they at least picked COOL aliens. Chicken aren't especially known to be cool, more silly. Though as I said before, it could still have made for a cool alien by giving it dinosaur-like features since chicken are related to dinosaurs, but no, they just made a chicken who kicked! *Sigh*

Yeah, but when I pointed that, someone screeched at me that Kickin Hawk could produce sonic waves and stuff like that.

Bloxx is one of silliest aliens ever, but he´s kind of an icon of the show now. :sigh:

Sometimes I wonder if the sucess of OV isn´t a... reflex, or consequence of people´s atual mentality. I mean, looks like it´s more and more common shallow, poorly done entertaining stuff becoming popular because anyone can understand easily. Like Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey, or some music hits.

Yeah, I remember you saying that. I have still yet to see that happening, assuming I'd come back to Omniverse.

O God, I just don't understand Bloxx's appeal. I mean, LEGO-alien... Even the Silver Age of Comic Books wouldn't have dared do that. The way he uses his powers isn't even cool; he is basically just a plastic man.

I think it's popular because it tries so hard to catch the feeling of the original series, and markets itself as this. But all I see is pointless continuity porn, character development thrown out of the windows and dumb, unfunny humor. This feel more like a parody of the original show than anything;

OMG Kick'n Hank is such a stupid Alien (almost as stupid as Bloxxs..... Almost) were do these people come up with this crap.

Frankly, even with that alien, I really don't see that much of a problem. I mean, it's following Benwolf and Rath, two others that weren't exactly taking great creative leaps design-wise. Heck, it's basically just to roosters what Rath is to tigers: bipedal, humanoid, and with minor pointy-object related tweaks.

That said, echoing that cyberbully at least has potential.

Btw, you´re the second person that says Cyberbully has potential. I´m starting seriously to consider the idea of developing it.

Thanks.

I think that Rath is so popular for the same reason because he´s a caricature of the typical badass, hot-headed character, like Vegeta or Wolverine. He´s so... overdoing (or exagerated, I don´t know exactly how to say in English) that he´s funny.

Tigers are cool (and Rath's Crazy Awesome attitude helps) but Chickens if you're going base a alien on a animal and lest base it on a cool one.

Think they were, in a way. Roosters aren't exactly known for being friendly, and will happily claw and peck the hell out of anything they don't like. And just because one animal-alien's "cooler" or has a better attitude doesn't really change the fact they both received pretty much the same treatment design-wise.

Besides, not every alien can or should be super amazing or ferocious. Azmuth has described the Omnitrix as "Noah's Ark," which means you're bound to get all kinds.

Its all a matter of opinion. I see Kickin Hank as a failed rule of cool.

SethWynd In reply to Chaser1992 [2013-06-23 02:08:35 +0000 UTC]

Good for you...? It's still absurd to treat him any different than Rath or Benwolf.

Chaser1992 In reply to SethWynd [2013-06-23 06:19:39 +0000 UTC]

The differences is tigers and werewolves have a unquestionable badass quality to them that Chickens significantly lack.

SethWynd In reply to Chaser1992 [2013-06-23 08:06:26 +0000 UTC]

So, the only real difference in design is...you basically like one animal more than the other.

Let me make sure I follow you here: you think Rath is awesome, but Kicken Hawk is stupid. You don't contest that the design formula is basically identical for both, they just used different animals.

So, at the end of the day, your opinion that Kicken Hawk is "such a stupid alien" and a "failed rule of cool" is that...you don't like the animal they chose.

You realize that looks absolutely absurd, right?

The reason why I like Rather is not just because of the animal he's have off but mostly because of his Crazy Awesome attitude. Something Kick'n Hank significantly lacks.

SethWynd In reply to Chaser1992 [2013-06-24 00:05:54 +0000 UTC]

And I'm glad he does, because I find Rath incredibly annoying. His "Crazy Awesome attitude" is little more than an incredibly flat and under-developed personality. And it's sad THAT is what he's known for.

The other aliens are at least known for some visible aspect of their design, or for their powers, or some sort of fighting style that sets them apart from the pack. Rath's just known for being angry and doing stupid things.

At least Kicken Hawk has the fact he tends to rely on using his legs in combat going for him. It's more impressive than starting every conversation by yelling the same phrase and lashing out at everything.

Chaser1992 In reply to SethWynd [2013-06-24 01:31:22 +0000 UTC]

I see your perspective. But is will argue the Rather is not flat (so might even the exact opposite.) A flat character is a character with no personal or anything special about them. But I can respect your opinion. And I can see how someone can find Rather annoying.

I really like how Kickin' Hawk looks completely different to Liam, you looked at him and just go "heh, silly chicken villain" then Ben transforms and damn its race just got badass.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SethWynd In reply to KaiserEdo [2013-06-22 17:48:52 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Also doesn't seem to be as obsessed with bird seed (that I've seen, anyway), so I'm more than willing to attribute that to either an individual quirk on Liam's end, or the "Rule of Funny" in action.

Since, remember: at the end of the day, this IS still a kid's show, so silly, cheap humor is to be expected. Same reason the Omnitrix has a recurring habit of randomly chooses to give Ben aliens he didn't select (across multiple seasons, even).

Chaser1992 In reply to SethWynd [2013-06-22 20:24:18 +0000 UTC]

The Omnitrix doing that has become a overly long gag. It as funny in the first series but each new series is taking it up to eleven.

SethWynd In reply to Chaser1992 [2013-06-23 02:11:13 +0000 UTC]

So? So you don't find it funny anymore (neither do I, for what it's worth).

Plenty of the newer generation of fans undoubtedly will, for the same reasons the rest of us did the first time it happened in Ben 10. And that's fine.

KaiserEdo In reply to SethWynd [2013-06-26 19:50:47 +0000 UTC]

I think it's not so much funny as that it simply makes for better fights.

Ben has the choice? he'll just grab big strong alien dude to punch the bad guy. Omnitrix messes it up? Ben's gotta figure out how Stinkfly will defeat this giant stone golem or whatever. I really like that

Believe it or not, I actually really like Cyberbully and his automaton-esque design. I think he'd make a great addition to Ben's roster.
