Description *sigh*
Okay, I got a comment on the whole skirt picture I last posted (which this comment makes fairly obvious.), in which the person said it's because of fans like me they no longer will buy Squaresoft products (and one can only assume that means Square-Enix as well.)
I just thought that that was a REALLY STUPID REASON. SERIOUSLY. CAPS-LOCK SERIOUS.
Too many people are taking fandom too seriously, starting flame wars and hating on each other's personal opinions. That is so stupid. These are ficitional characters!! Who cares if you think That Ichigo and Rukia are so way better than Ichigo and Orihime or whatever. IT IS A FICTIONAL STORY. Have your likes, have your dislikes. Draw them drunk around a table discussing modern economical issues or have them in kilts running around chasing raccoons with golf clubs! IT IS IMMATERIAL.
This comic, featuring me and Ryan is just my self-indulgent opinion on the matter. Feel free to have a different opinion, that is your right, just like the person who gave up on Square 'cause of random fangirl-foolishness. I never meant anything to be taken seriously, and that person doesn't have to take my opinion on this matter seriously either.
Freedom is pretty cool like that. You dig?

Me and Ryan (c) Me. (and my parents technically)

That person is retarded. Who would give up the amazing Sqeenix because they don't like cross dressing and/or yaoi?! D< Oh well. Heh heh, you should draw the chasing raccoons with golf clubs in kilts thing. XD

I agree with your message in full. its not about what one set of groups likes, its what YOU like. I agree with Ryan, men in dresses is fun, always have thought it was. so no matter what, will think of guys in dresses. BUT thats just me, not the whole world. and whoever left that comment must just not like Square games. because that is really the only reason to not play their games. you do not like the plot or the battle systems.

or they are just to stupid to realize that you can play and not be in the fandom. There are plenty of shows and games i love but i am not in the fandom (ok mostly though lack of time, but it still counts!)

They can learn to deal with it. Why is it the minority fans always get screwed? We tolerate the rude comments and the bitchy remarks. I personally would buy the SquareSoft because of fans like you! So keep up the wicked awesome work! Have a fantabulous day!

I WOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON TEH SQUARE. O_e EVARRRRRRR.

Homg stupid people. Dx
Okay, so consider one side of the fandom and the other side.
Mary Sues are on the positive infinity side of the scale.
These people are on the negative infinity.
Mary Sues try to show off with their weaboo knowledge of Japanese.
These people (for lack of a name for them) try to show off by bashing anime and the general fangirls/boys.
They're the same thing, except opposite. 8D

AND THAT IS MY OPINION. >D

I personally laughed my ass off and thought your last pic was amazing. 8DDD LUV FOR YOU. DUN LET IT GET YOU DOWNNNN.
IMA LOOK AT YOUR NEXT PIC NOW omg I was gone for two days. I come back and I have 15 devs and 17 messages WHUT.

lol....Calvin and Hobbes is pretty much my favourite comic strip of all time, and it's one of the only ones that could really get away with social commentary, philosophy and existentialism. Pretty heavy for such an awesomely funny comic.

My personal stance is that if you can't LOL (I mean actually laughing out loud in front of your computer) at things that make fun of your fandom, you're not a true fan (even though I REALLY don't like that term). I also think that "true fans" don't actually call themselves "true fans." It sounds so elitist.

I've found that sometimes I take movies too seriously when they're trying to be absolutely ridiculous. To me, this just means I'm not a "true fan." If I were, I'd know that it was being ridiculous on purpose and be able to laugh so hard I'd have to rewind to hear things again.

So hey, if you get comments like that again, just tell them "Shut up! It's funny!"

And it is!

I totally agree though. 90% of the fandoms I've left in the past were because of silly flame wars and bickering over who (insert character name here) HAS to be with in the end, 'cause everyone knows (insert second character name here) is such a (insulting term).
People need to chill. Enjoy it for the nice little FANTASY fun that these things are.

Men belong in dresses as much as women belong in pants. It's just fabric! Use it or loose it ;D

Wow. See, your comment really made me think of something. I mean, if the internet existed 40 years ago, pictures of women in pants would be greatly offensive to some people, and that just strikes me as kind of trippy.
It's all in the context. What is considered strange or bad now might be perfectly normal a decade down the road...or if you happen to be in Scotland. Yay for kilts!

Too many people forget there is such a thing called a 'Back' button.

Honestly, who gives a shit if it's canon, fanon, crack, slash, w/e! Love what you love and get over it! ( this is not addressed to you Silverookami )
If one is so dependent on fandom being 100% canon maybe they should step away from the computer/game console/tv and go outside or something >>;

I use the Back button all the time, I'm still amazed when I stumble upon people who go into a frothy rage at a picture they didn't like when all they have to do is click one little button and go do something else for a while to remove the image from their head ( it's what I do whenever I stumble across a guro picture or those awful lotus photoshop picture, DDR, guitar hero, and dynasty warriors works wonders )

fruit1oops In reply to Silverookami [2009-03-13 23:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Maybe both. All I know is it started with a picture of a lotus seed pod photoshopped with a breast then 4chan got ahold of it and... yeah...
After seeing them I ended up getting Trypophobia and now any cluster of small holes will make me start itching like crazy enough to start scratching my skin raw.

Silverookami In reply to Roxasheart654 [2009-03-13 23:03:51 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, it wasn't really the skirt thing itself, so much as the fact that art and stuff similar (and including) mine actually would make a person stop supporting the original products. It just seems foolish to me.

I'm not personally bothered or offended by the comment to my art specifically, I've had flames before of course. It's just too immature to go the next step and swear off something due to fandom. Nothing one can do though but ignore it and move on....or draw up a really quick comic illustrating the problem, and then move on lol.

I think for once SOMEONE (you of course) has discovered brains!! Everyone gets so wrapped up in this fictitious place and start making the stupidist stunts! I think your comic proves a great point. Some people just need to relax... Enjoy their fandoms and try to please those with opinions similar to theirs.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Silverookami In reply to firewolf013 [2009-03-13 23:01:07 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. I draw things that people I know will find at the least amusing, I don't expect everyone to like the stuff I do or agree with it, but it's all in fun. When I'm looking online I just have fun and if I stumble across something I'm not keen on, I hit the back button. I think I have only once been actually critical of another person's work, and that was because it was frighteningly racist. (So I guess I do make some exceptions to the whole be nice rule.)
People need to just remember this is all just a hobby, all just harmless fun and learn to cruise by what they don't like.
The internet can be hard sometimes for reasonable persons like us, huh?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

firewolf013 In reply to Silverookami [2009-03-13 23:05:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, very. Half the time I'M critisized for my likes and I simply go 'Hey, I am here to have fun with what I like to do, if you want to masacre the world into obediance, then go somewhere else' but they simply bash me more. Hobbies are hobbies, don't make hate one of yours! But anyway, we should have a slogain 'Live for fun! Hate the hate!' Or something catchy. I dunno. People sometimes really need to loosen up.

Silverookami In reply to firewolf013 [2009-03-13 23:16:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, we can make slogans and print up signs and then go bug Al Gore until he fixes the internet so haters no longer exist. He really should've figured some way to block them in the first place when he invented the net. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

Yes! >_< I agree! Some people take fandom too seriously! I think Axel x Roxas is a bad pairing but I don't go around flaming everyone! (BTW The only reason I hate it is because in all of my stories Axel is the father of Roxas and that doesn't look right....also Roxas is usually a baby in stories.) I find it weird when people make male characters cross dress but I found that picture very very funny. I was think of making a similar outfit for one of my characters....

Also I have those spaced out moments imgining something on someone....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Silverookami In reply to SailorChibiChibi [2009-03-13 22:57:30 +0000 UTC]

See, and it's perfectly fine that we don't necessarily agree on all aspects of our fandom! I can't certainly understand from that explanation why you'd find Axel and Roxas pretty squicky, and in all honesty, I drew the dress thing 'cause it was an outfit I pictured and then I thought it was just funny. It's not serious, not meant to damage the characters, it's just a joke.

I'm just glad that there are people like you who can at least address and respect the differences in how we see the fandom in a mature way.
