{DotW} Hera x Seava: No Goodbyes,SETTING: ArynDATE: Aug-Sep 2021HeraHera felt her heart thump rhythmically in her chest as she walked circles in a clearing trying to digest all she’d heard yesterday. The initial joy of seeing her beloved sister again had provided more padding then Hera realized until it was worn away by Zinnia’s words. Their mother was due to give birth again and she’d asked for their help. As to what form of help she was requesting neither she nor Zinnia had much idea, and the mystery of it gave Hera rare pangs of anxiety. Dahlia was incredibly capable, but maybe the ending of the harsh winter led their mother to believe she needed extra hands. It had to be that, Hera didn’t want to even ponder if it was anything deeper than that. But regardless of her worries one thing was clear...They needed to get to Dahlia as soon as possible, and that meant leaving as soon as they could. She'd already received Cassandra's approval and she had wanted to get going the moment she’d heard the news from Zinnia but an unexpected tug of loyalty made her pause. Aryn had been good to her, abandoning them was not something she wanted to do, and then...there was Seava. There was no way Hera could go without speaking to her first, it just didn’t feel right not to. And so without realizing she was slowly closing in on the gold wolf’s location. Despite the somber reason for the visit Hera still felt her spirits go alight for a moment as she called out. “Seava! Do...do you have a moment?”SeavaThe cold sucked. All cold weather did, but this fall had been especially bad. Did being born in this winter bring some kind of curse as the season got closer? Only bad things seemed to happen! The fact that she was born in winter during a war, then survived a freak cold snap only to be rewarded with homicidal maniacs on the loose killing their prey for no reason seemed like a sick joke from The One.Maybe this was why her father wasn’t a believer…Her ears flickered, spinning around to spot Hera. Immediately her sour mood melted like the blasted snow in the glorious spring.“Hera!” she called back brightly, trotting over to the red female. It felt like the two barely got to see each other these days. Courser duty had been extremely rough lately and Seava had been trying to go out more often to give her parents a rest. Didn’t they know they were old? Dad was limping a bit and frankly, Mom looked like shit.“Sure I do! What’s up?” The petite female cocked her head to the side. This was when she did actually have a moment; one she’d gladly give to be around Hera.HeraHer initial joy to see the gold shewolf slowly faded as the reality of why she had called out hit her yet again. What did she even say to her? Hera didn't plan to leave forever, in fact she was determined to come back to Aryn as soon as she could...but how soon? When? Her mother wasn't one to ask for help if it wasn't urgent, what if Hera wouldn't be able to return for weeks, months even? The thought of not seeing Seava for that long made her flinch as if she had been burned. The pain was a surprise as much as it was a wake up call, why did she feel so strongly? "Seava I…" Hera’s jaw clicked shut, for a brief moment she wondered if it would have been better to just disappear rather than confront this. She'd never been a model friend to anyone else anyway, why was this different?Seava is more than just some friend to me.Her mind spoke firmly. But if anything the belief made it even harder for her to speak, but delaying this would only hurt everyone more."Seava, I have to leave Aryn...for a while. My mother sent my sister here calling for me and Hiero. She needs me and I...I've already gotten Cassandra's blessing I just wanted to…"Hera paused again, what did she want to do really other than say goodbye? She wanted to turn away from Seava but her body nor her mind would listen, not until she was finally honest."I wanted to say goodbye…"Liar!"Seava, I want you to come with me! I don't want to be apart...I-I want to be able to see you."Hera’s resolve weakened again; how could she ask something so selfish. It's not as if they both hadn't been busy lately, their time together was limited anyway. But this felt different, the ability to see her would be gone. However that didn't change the fact that Seava had likely never left Aryn before, her life was here, her family was here. Asking her to leave over emotions even Hera didn't understand was a preposterous notion. The red wolf closed her eyes briefly, she had to get a grip before she said something else burdensome."I'm sorry. I shouldn't have…"SeavaThe pause created anxiety almost instantaneously. Hera never was the most talkative wolf, but her avoiding gaze and tense posture caused Seava’s paws to grow numb. Her face prickled as blood flow ceased to every part of her body. Something was wrong. They had been friends long enough for Seava to know.“H-Hera, you’re… making me nervous,” the small wolf admitted. That kind of confession was uncharacteristic, but something about it being from Hera, her being the one to act like this, Seava couldn’t contain the overflow of emotions. Enough shit happened to her, her family and friends, to Aryn, that another one could be the fatal blow. Please, not from Hera. Not her.The words hit with an invisible force that the golden female took a half step back, staring at Hera with wide eyes. The One, how could reality be worse?“You’re… leaving?” A blend between a sob and croak, her ears folded against her skull, the constant curled bob swaying as she shook her head in denial. Seava knew how important Hera’s family was to her - they were the topic she talked about the most - but fear and selfishness were mixing into a dangerous combination. She snarled with tears brimming. “How could you dump all of this on me?!” This wasn’t fair, blaming Hera didn’t even make sense, yet the word vomit kept coming. “Were you planning to say all this and then just go? Without… without even talking to me about it first? I get this must be some family drama and I can’t judge but, but… I don’t know…”Trailing off, tears stained her cheeks. When a sob bubbled past her lips, she turned her head in anger and shame. This seemed like an extreme reaction, no? And why did it feel like her heart was breaking? She didn’t shed a single tear when Harley left now here she was, sobbing like a pathetic pup.“Yeah, you shouldn’t have!” Seava snarled through the heartbreak.Hera"I-Im sorry…" She croaked, normally such words and abrasiveness would have caused Hera's own aggression to stir but then Seava cried and Hera understood. After watching her, getting to know her, the red wolf realized instantly she didn't mean her words that way she was just upset. Hera was too and that fact did not aid her in trying to comfort her friend."If I could have had time to prepare, to tell you sooner I would have, believe me. But...I don't have a choice, my mother. She needs me, Seava."Hera shouldn't have told her she wanted her to come. It was as if she’d bitten her and rubbed salt from the sea into the wound. She hadn't meant to say it, but she had meant to be honest and sometimes that hurt worse than lies. "We...leave tomorrow morning."Never before had she thought someone would matter to her just as much as her family, she wanted to leave and be with her mother just as much as she wanted to sleep pressed against Seava. But...there was nothing she could do about it now as pain burned her heart. Gentle tears rolled down the golden wolf's face and she wished she could cry with her but to Hera that would be akin to saying goodbye forever and she didn't want that.Against her better judgment she closed the gap between them and brushed her cheek past hers, pressing close. "I promise you I'll return. I know I will return." As quickly as she'd initiated the touch she ended it pulling back and turning away, hesitating any longer would shake her resolve.Seava“I… know. I know.” The anger began to be eclipsed by an intense sorrow that squeezed her heart until it hurt. The pain in her chest was unbearable, not to mention unexpected. “It’s your mom…” Although she didn’t know all the details, Seava would do the same if Hani needed anything. The young female was getting a lesson in how painful words truly could be. Tomorrow? She audibly gasped, eyes pinned shut as more tears rolled down her cheeks. The One. Why did this hurt so much? It didn’t make any sense. Hera was leaving for a trip - it wasn’t like she was leaving forever, disappearing into the abyss. Friends and family came and went. Hell, half her family here weren’t even speaking to each other. But sometimes, it felt like Hera was more than a friend. More than family even. Could that be the reason her heart felt another painful squeeze?“I don’t want you to go,” she confessed with a shaky exhale. “But… but I can’t go with you. I’m, I’m sorry. I can’t leave my family, while you go to yours.”She smiled sadly then inhaled sharply at the unexpected touch. As quickly as it happened, Hera had stepped back, her cheek cold, and the sad smile returned. With misty eyes, she yelled “You better!”
