I actually use a different digital art program called Paint Tool Sai for the first 80-90% of a picture, and then switch to Photoshop, so my coloring is all done in Sai |D But when I used to use Photoshop to draw things, I would have my Lineart layer on 'Normal' on top of everything, and then make a flat coloring layer (also 'Normal') below it, and color on that. And then I would make any separate coloring layers between the original flat coloring layer and lineart layer, such as one for markings. AND THEN once I had all my flat coloring done, I'd make a layer below the Lineart layer, above all the coloring layers, and set it to Multiply and turn the opacity down to around 50-65% and start shading. Normally I make a few shading layers with different opacities or colors or gradients. To stay in the lines, use the magic wand tool and go to your Lineart layer, select everything outside of your lineart, and then go to the bar at the top and click 'Selection -> Inverse' And it'll select everything within your lineart, so you can go back to the shading layer (or coloring layer, I use this method for coloring, too) and all your brush-strokes stay within the lines 8) AND YEAH basically that's it lskjdf

I actually just use Photoshop Elements 4.0, even though I have Photoshop CS4. I think CS4 is just too overworked slkdfjsd Elements has everything I need and it's simple and easy!! So really, it doesn't matter which version you use 8] And you're welcome! <3
