This is a really interesting process, and the effect is stunning. It goes so well with a Holga photograph.

I'd love to try it myself, but I don't want to asphyxiate in my basement

silversmith In reply to ErinGibson [2007-05-03 15:22:50 +0000 UTC]

Heh heh. I highly recommend that you only try this process when you have the right space (with the right ventilation), because once you try it you'll want to do it ALL THE DAMN TIME and there's no pill for the withdrawal symptoms...

thats awsome!!
how is it done?

silversmith In reply to idosyncratic-romana [2007-04-17 15:52:33 +0000 UTC]

Well. It's a big pain, actually. Here's a (very simplified) run-down.

1) Print a negative using a special dilution of developer and fix it using fixer without hardener.
2) Dry six hours.
3) Bleach the pring using copper sulfate, potasium bromide, potassium dichromate.
4) Dry six hours.
5) Apply ink to the print until it's done.

All you need is a darkroom and the right chemistry and tools.

SlowMo [2007-04-05 16:35:58 +0000 UTC]

i'm a little confused by the nature of this process, but this has a strange effect. seems to suit a Holga-negatives complete lack of detail very well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silversmith In reply to SlowMo [2007-04-05 16:45:35 +0000 UTC]

It's an incredibly involved process...if I wasn't in school I wouldn't have the space to dedicate to it. The process is very similar to printmaking processes...the photograph is bleached out until it becomes the matrix to receive the ink.
