You seem to be a pretty knowledgeable Sonic fan (hard to find these days it seems) so I figured I'd voice my opinion here to see what kind of views you share with me. Although I am happy that Sega has teamed up with Nintendo for 3 games and even though I hope that the partnership brings more money to both companies (especially Sega), I feel like I really am not missing out on not having a Wii U to play this game, and that is mainly because of how childish and unrealistic this game is, it even lacks, yet again, another proper story. While I understand that since I am a somewhat older Sonic fan I might find the stories childish just due to age and maturity, but lately I feel like it has gotten worse from the basically nonexistent serious plots presented in Sonic Colors and now this. What I honestly miss is the Adventure games, Heroes, and even 06 actually, due to the attempt at a serious story and setting, even though it wasn't executed the best it could be. Now while I'm not one of those Adventure series fanboys who is constantly begging Sega for an SA3, I honestly do miss the attempts at serious stories with minimal childish humor and an engaging plot with normal, full 3D gameplay and even multiple characters that tie together into the plot that is serious and makes sense. I assume you yourself are a somewhat older Sonic fan (above 17-18) so you have to miss some of the older, more serious style stories as well. Well this has gotten long, I apologize, I just wanted to see how you feel about what I had to say, and maybe even give your opinion as well. Have a good day!

Its just fine!I type novels too. A knowledgeable sonic fan? I can the say the same about you! But yeah, i don't find it hard to find people with the same views as me.But I found great friends thanks to my group! I'm actually only 15! I was just raised by the right family. I had a genesis,dreamcast,nintendo 64,supernintendo,and gamecube growing up! So I understand the classic feel of sonic games.Bot 2D and 3D. I would like to see SA3 or even heroes 2 too,but I have a theory on what Sega's doing.
Ok.sonic generations was the big finale. They're "rebooting" the series of sorts. they're doing the same thing they did back then wit sonic the hedeghog 1. A simple plot and pretty colors, and becoming more complex and serious as time goes by. Like from Sonic 1 to sonic 3. It gets more intense as time goes by. So eventually, we'll get that serious tone with comedic relief again.
So like you, Im a little tired of the childish stories like Secret Rings and Colors, but I dont hate it. Sega's been gettin it together lately, so I have faith in them!

Hmm, that's actually not a bad way to look at the way the series is heading lately I can only hope that is true, but honestly you never know with Sega, especially these days with the games they've produced as of late and even some of the interviews where Iizuka (head of Sonic Team) has said that they are trying to tailor to more of a younger audience, although it doesn't make much since to me since kids these days grow up faster than they did in the early 2000s with CoD, Battlefield, social media and things of the sort. So with that in mind one would have to assume that they are tailoring for an audience near 5-7, which kinda scares me. Whenever I saw that rumor about SA3 I honestly got excited because I finally thought Sega found out what worked with Unleashed, Colors, and Generations and they finally decided to add a 3D only story with the game gameplay as those games (minus some of the boosting, not altogether though) with some more characters and a slightly more serious plot, but I was sadly mistaken. I've been dying to contact Iizuka directly to ask him for a game like that but I honestly have no means to contact him, and Sega of America customer support is pretty much worthless. I guess the only way would be to make some group here, recruit people who feel the same way as me, build it up big, form some sort of petition and somehow get it to Sonic Team in Japan from their rather worthless base in the US. It's pretty much impossible for that to happen but well one can dream I suppose xD Well if I ever do decide to make a group I'll be sure to let you know, hopefully you'd be willing to join and possibly promote it xD Thanks again for answering!

Has Sonic Extreme ever been released? Did it have any sequels? Does anyone know if this kind of gameplay will work yet?
I said FRESH ideas. Not NEW ideas.
But there ARE some new things that make the game seem even fresher besides the Mario Galaxy/Sonic Extreme levels.
These villains actually look FUN and the levels look are bright and beautiful. None of that angsty dark crap from the likes of 06 or Shadow the Hegdehog.
Seriously, though. The villains are what steal the show for me.

Well Sega let out details of how it will be played. Its not a 100% carbon copy of Xtreme, just similar. I just put that link just in case you didnt know. And yeah, the villains a are fresh! Cant wait to see what they're capable of in the boss battles!

Of sorts. You'll have your sonic generations classic gameplay but with 3D added into it. Its hard to explain. But not completely 2D, but no boost either
