That's really cool.

First reading the first half of the sentence, then looking at the picture, then reading the second half of the sentence...

This really speaks volumes to me. (that's the closest emote I could get to what I wanted...)

I'm also reminded of a song lyric...
"I think I might just die if I miss anything at all
Test me, send an e-mail, link me up, give me a call!"
--Jimmy Buffett

*looks up* I see I commented from my old account too... over a year ago.

Than you! I'm glad it does.

Erp, so you're Flexico in a new account?

Every time I see this I get all choked up, like it reminds me of something valuable I lost, yet at the same time, it makes me feel freed of the strong chains binding me to mortal society...

Yes, I believe I am insane, but that's beside the point.

It's not insane to appreciate something for what it means to you.

Thank you! C:

Your art is always amazing! Do you use photoshop? It never works for me... I wish I knew your secrets!

SimbaGirl In reply to Simbaraion [2006-07-02 16:11:58 +0000 UTC]

Why thank you! :3 Yeah, I usually use PS for refined pictures like this one. I don't know if I have any secrets...heh, I guess it's just time and experience with the ol' thing.

Just curious, but do you know what version you have? I have and old crappy one and I'm considering buying new photo-software. Any recommendations? Your art always looks great, so what works for you might just work for me too.

SimbaGirl In reply to Simbaraion [2006-07-03 19:46:09 +0000 UTC]

Haha, actually, the version I have is rather old and crappy, compared to the latest Adobe has put out anyway. I use Photoshop Elements 2.0. But it works!! I think you can still find it around, and for under $100 bucks. (I've seen it at Target a long time ago for $60.)

Later versions of Photoshop have many more features and of course make things far easier for people to work. The thing I hate most about Elements is that it doesn't have the "smoothing" feature like the modern PSs do. The smoothing feature sort of fixes your lines as you go, meaning you don't have to do like I do everytime you outline a picture and work overtime to make your lines look clean, soft, and professional because the program does that for you automatically.

So if you want recommendations from me, I say pleeeeeaaaaaaase, spare yourself and invest in a newer version of Photoshop. Good places to consider: [link] and [link] Student discount! There you can buy software by the bundle, and get a buttload of amazing stuff for less than Photoshop alone would cost on the regular market. (I want to do that someday soon.) Or just get Photoshop for about half its normal price.
Oh! And (forgive my rambling Cx) remember there are other good things out there besides the highly-glorified Photoshop. Open Canvas [link] for example is nice. And Corel Painter isn't bad either. Programs like those are designed to produce a more real media kind of look; like it indeed was painted on canvas. Photoshop, though can be used to achieve results like that, is best for making professional-like, refined art. (That's my understanding.)

There are tons of options out there, both pricy and not, but keep in mind, it the end, it's not the tools but the artist!

Hope my little novel was of help to you!

Simbaraion In reply to SimbaGirl [2006-07-03 20:10:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it was! Actually, I just found one online today called Adobe CS2 (I think) for a couple hundred dollars. Now, I don't have that kind of money, but I'm sure that my step-dad can probably hook me up with it for much less. (Like, all you need is a balnk CD kind of less). Yeah, my current Photoshop (I think it's one of the first demo versions) doesn't smooth out lines either, and it doesn't help much with effects, colors, resolution, or just about anything else. It's almost like paint, only with a few more options that I can use.

Oh, and I have another question (even though you're probably sick and tired of them by now...sorry...). When you color your art, do you do most of it on an open canvas and then scan it to your computer, or do you scan the image and then color it on PS? My current scanner screws up all colors except blue (because it tints everything blue!), so I can't post anything real well until my new scanner gets shipped to me, and of course, my PS sucks bigtime, so all I can really do is post black and white, but hey, life goes on...right?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks for all the help!

Wow, that does sound ancient. o___o

Don't worry, questions are fine with me. (Plus they cure my boredom!) I pretty much do all my sketches in Open Canvas (I like the convenience of ctrl + z), then import them to PS, if I don't finish them in OC, and go from there. You have a tablet, right?

Simbaraion In reply to SimbaGirl [2006-07-04 15:12:57 +0000 UTC]

A normal one yes, but not one of those cool fancy ones that hook up to the computer.

simondrawsstuff [2006-05-28 18:41:11 +0000 UTC]

This looks so different from your usual style! But I love it, great atmosphere.
The simplicity/minimalism works really well too, and the shining yellow eyes (is it Joy?), the cold lighting and the surreal setting make the picture look sort of eery. In a good way though, cuz I like eery stuff.

Aaanyways, I'm still trying to figure out whether there is a hidden message behind the italic and bold letters in the Artist's comments section... >_>

SimbaGirl In reply to simondrawsstuff [2006-05-29 00:55:37 +0000 UTC]

Theoretically, yes, that'd be Joy.
Yay, I'm glad it looks eerie, that's one element I was shooting for. Thank you! ^__^

Hidden message? Not really...
