Well said! and really well drawn, you can see the quiet determination in his face and eyes. Even when he is on his knees with darkness and destruction all around. I think that you have executed your written vision extremely well.

You surpassed your goal to 'represent a knight as an allegory of masculinity.' This is an extraordinary study.

Thank you very much. Though I'm curious as to why you call this a study. To me it's a finished piece of illustration, and not a study, but maybe we have different definitions of the word "study".

Just different definitions of the word 'study.' When I see something that I feel is intense (as 'Chivalry' certainly is), I feel that the artist studied the emotions involved. Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. It makes more sense to me now. I did indeed put a lot of thought into just about everything in this picture and I'm really glad you appreciate that.

You really shouldn't.
It's the result of applying a multitude of rather simple principles of light, colour and composition in a very methodical way.
I strongly believe anyone can learn if they have the motivation and learn about things in an order that makes sense.
If you break things down into manageable steps, starting with fundamentals and going progressively to more specific technical niche tools, then eventually you will reach the skill level you wished for.
If you're interested, you can start with the "Drawing Basics" videos on this page: proko.com/library
Don't be fooled by how entertaining they are, nearly every sentence in there is essential.
But I insist, this image isn't a work of genius but of method and hard work. It can be taught and learned. You most certainly can get there and probably faster than you would think.

Yes. Those are some of the best, most comprehensive videos I have found.
The ideas are well explained but you'll need to practise them to master them.
If you ever feel like you need feedback, I recommend joining which is a great group dedicated to constructive comments.
I also started a weekly critique project which you can find in my journal, where I try to help people like you take their art to the next level.
