Nate fan right here. I hated to see this guy go. Very glad there's some fan art of him.

Great to know you are too!! Precisely right? He had a personality I enjoyed and it was way off the hook the kill him off without even a proper closure or honor to his contributions.

I appreciate this. I think that Nate had more potential that was not exploited.

Thank you kindly, I'm so happy you said posted here. Yes I agree, him being the creator of the power rings he could have done more. The issues leading up to Robotnik's return and before the Sonic Adventure arc were kind of a introductional period for him, but he felt like a plot device for the whole SA arc adaption and didn't really do much after that but I still enjoyed his presence. He was still a true hero for saving countless Mobians and Overlanders from Eggman, and it was way tragic for me to see him roboticized and slagged with Robotropolis, and I absolutely hated his sacrifice going unmentioned, what was that..
I thought it be cool if he had tried to experiment with the Power Rings to make them have more power and have different sets of rings that would give Sonic new abilities and more inventions and that would be worthwhile and awesome like his laser eyewear rather than making him just a techie.
Still, I can't help but feel even if they were to bring him back it would cheapen his sacrifice, even if his potential wasn't fully explored it isn't a reason to bring him back I suppose (unless they write it in a way that doesn't feel like it). Now this is why they should have brought back Nate instead of Tommy Turtle. :\

Would it have been a stretch if he had remained alive and part of the Knothole/New Mobotropolis community? I'd think Max would need another confidant what with his bad condition. He could have even been let in on the Harvey Who's Secret Freedom Fighters.
Plus between him and Hope (even though she's with the UF) they could gradually move towards the coexistence and integration of Mobian and Overlander societies. If that isn't too sappy a storyline. Just something I'd like to end my series with.
And while I'm on the subject of Hope, I would really like it if she could cross paths with the Freedom Fighters again so she could see that there are no hard feelings between them.

I honestly liked him as part of the cast despite some saying his realistic design is weird being part of a very cartoony cast. I disagree with them and I don't care, his character is what made me like him so it's not about the design (Although I personally liked his design, Spaz's designs are all awesome anyway, DUH). But yeah, I love to see him part of the Mobotropolis cast, too bad it was only awhile. If Nate was still alive up to the current King Naugus arc, I wonder how Nate and Naugus would react to each other, I thought their rivalry was very interesting and Naugus would secretly plot to kill him. While always at Max's side to cheer the sick king he could help out the SFF, but not as a member in the field, he's too old just a supporter. I kinda saw Hope as Nate's replacement, but she is not really as interesting and much development during her stay in Knothole, though writer Karl Bollers had planned for a story featuring her revealing some of the kids picked on her for being an Overlander. Same as how Nate suffered. Yes I want Hope to cross paths with the FF again, it's been a long while and I hope it's soon. I'm kinda cross how the FF never check up the human cities to see how Hope is doing. Ugh, like how they don't appear to care of Nate's death. :/ What's up with this..

There is something I don't get though. Apparently Nate taught Julian Kintobor who would then sabotage an experiment leading to Nate's banishment. And then Nate was accepted into the Mobian society by Frederick Acorn and it seems that at this time Maximillian was only an infant. Or a toddler. I'm just going on the age difference between Robotnik and Maximillian since no given age was provided for Max. I can at least figure that Max has prematurely aged with all the s*** he's been through. Thing is in my potential adaptation, I either leave out the Nate and Julian thing or make sure that Julian is just a kid then.
I also expand Colin Kintobor's because I like him more than I should. But that's another tale for another time.

I realize that this page is about Nate but would you like to hear about the additional plans I had for Colin Kintobor? In a nutshell I let him redeem himself but I can elaborate if you'd like.

Sure why not? Colin was also a tragic character, but guess they killed him off because he had no more use whatsoever, it'd be useless if he and Lady Agnes survived anyway though it was sad to see them die and Hope left an orphan.

Alrighty. Now one thing I should say is that I inexplicably like numerous characters in my various areas of interest. I don't know what I see in Colin especially since he's supposed to be cold, ruthless nobility and even worse: racist. Like Nate, I feel that he had an almost pivotal role in setting the stage for the Great War, Robotnik's coup and essentially the purpose of the Freedom Fighters.
What I have now is that he leads the Overlanders back to Mobius, takes refuge in his brother's city yadda yadda. He would get roboticized but not become a statue, instead a personal slave to Robotnik. Later he would have his will restored, eventually deroboticized and then start to recolonize Old Megaopolis. He doesn't show much gratitude on the surface but his conscience is starting to eat away at him.
I don't know how long I could keep him in a series (a TV one that is. It's my master plan). A season or two. possibly. Enough episodes for him to play minor roles (flashbacks included) and be a focus once or twice.
Eventually Robotnik would launch an attack to claim Old Megaopolis as his new base. Colin is being haunted by all of his mistakes (banishing and discriminating his brother, disinheriting his son, torturing and killing Mobians) and grieves both of his wives.
Stubbornly refusing to surrender to his brother he and his soldiers attempt to fight off the invasion force. The Freedom Fighters have come to the city beforehand, urging Colin to evacuate the colony. G.U.N. also arrives with Team Dark and small reinforcements (not enough though) and aerial troop carriers for the people.
At last he gives in (Hope would have begged him to as well). He and other soldiers still continue to fight off the invasion to buy time. Then Colin would sacrifice himself to hold off some really dangerous bots while the last of the people are led from the debris of a collapsed building. At Hope's urging, Shadow goes into the fray to find the mortally wounded Colin. Colin confesses that Mobians are...well better people than could ever hope to be. He claims that he has paid for all of his mistakes. Finally he tells Shadow to take care of Hope (of course) and passes away. Shadow takes his body to the Freedom Fighter Special and they flee the area. Funeral but I don't where yet.
So yeah it's more than he really deserves but....I like I have.

Wow..dude, that was amazing! I never thought of that, it would have such a nice story! You're on your way to become a writer.
I liked how Colin admitted that Mobians are better people, it's too bad we never got to see him say that after he realized his brother had tricked him. What an interesting possibility I must say, I like it. It would have closed his character much better than just turning into a statue and perishing with Robotropolis. I wish the comics hadn't been rebooted, so many potential storylines thrown away. I blame Penders seriously.
If you're keen, want to turn this into a comic? You write the script I draw, just for fun.
Just asking you, if Nate hadn't died how would you have written him and what would you make him do?

Thanks. I try. I seem to have a way of conveying a good focus in my writings. Good detail and emotion.
Truth to be told I'm a little cautious about posting anything here 'cause of theft. And I haven't drawn digitally before.
Yeah, I draw really good too.
I have to admit that my recent work on the 'Colin redemption' was triggered by my renewed 'Tolkien' phase.
It might seem to be a bit too....Boromir-esque what I did. Especially since I repeatedly listened to the track 'Departure of Boromir' while envisioning Colin fighting off robots. Hehehe.
To be honest, I may not have tried to write enough about Nate. True there are those thoughts I had mentioned to you earlier but nothing that he would play a critical role in. If I had my way I would let most (or some) of the people from Knothole (New Mobotropolis, whatever) community have an occasional center or supporting part. The Hedgehogs. The Prowers. The Quacks. Rosie and the kids.
I think I'm past my initial rage phase on the Penders Predicament. My temper might spike again but now I just don't know what to think. The storyline they were following has been screwed over and they couldn't even finish the 'King Naugus-Secret Missions' bit. And I even thought of a way it could have ended.

Oh okay it's no problem. That was a very cool idea though, I love to hear more if you have. Yes, indeed I would love to give the supporting cast limelight at times. I feel there aren't much focus on them and I would like some stories involving them than just appearing in the background. I still am pissed over the whole Penders thing and no Penders characters have appeared since 243. Everybody is saying get over it but they're only saying that because they don't care about them and the storyline is seriously screwed up now, I want the old timeline back. Years of stories thrown away and majority of my fav characters gone.
