Description I love hands. I don't think there's anything I enjoy more. They can say a lot about a person, and for me, there's a certain challenge in trying to get them to say everything I want them to. I put a lot more emphasis on what hands are saying than faces. I guess I'd say hands can lie less, about who you are. Whether they're rough or soft, or delicate, or strong. You can pretend not to be a carpenter, but wood just strips your hands of moisture. Shake somebody's hand, and you know who they are. Maybe that's where the greeting started.

It's one of the first things I learned to draw properly, mostly because everyone kept saying how hard it was and that fascinated me as a child - I worried about it. I was lucky to immediately be learning from Albert Dorne & friends about the matter.

I was a kid though, so I'd have to go through this book again (properly) as an adult. I keep it nearby all the same. I probably will soon, I think.

It doesn't mean that, in the intervening years I haven't totally abbreviated what I learned. I certainly don't draw anything like Dorne.
I have a lot of bad habits, and that causes a lot of blocks for me as an artist. I didn't learn evenly, and I pay the price for that.

This drawing was an effort to get something out there, put some colour down. Hands are something I don't feel very blocked about, and P4 is an absolute design marvel, with a colour I hate, yellow. I've had the opportunity to see a lot of very interesting work as a result - It's just like there was a lot of very interesting work surrounding SNK's Ash Crimson, too, and his unusual 60's pop design. I'm still trying to become comfortable with using colour at all, so while this is a kind of rushed thing, that in itself is way out there for me! XD It was brave, but I wanted to put something down.

I love it! The hands are amazing, and I agree that sometimes the hands can be even more expressive than the eyes or face.

Let's go through it together sometime. It's a correspondence course, it's set up for learning in short bursts! ([link] )

I just wish Normal Rockwell et. al. were still there to over see the review of our artwork by pros...!

I guess that's what conceptart.org is for! [link]
