I disliked it more for the art than the story or the abuse. And to be honest, the abuse is conflict, without it they are just kinda stewing in Arkham. Which would get boring after awhile, but thus is the sad life of the DC criminal.

no no boring is good you see why else do you think they continually break out because its so boring if there was conflict within there home that would be all the excitment they need and thus they would have no desire to break out again see what i mean sides to them its just a vacation home

But that's just it. All the comics that we see are about those rare moments when conflict does happen to break the doldrums. I love seeing life in Arkham, and I am not squeemish about what happens in there. I want to see the conflict and the growth they have from enduring said conflict and hardship.

Then I would say, read those comics. I'll read the ones I want to read no matter what may or may not happen to the Gotham Rogues, or any other rogues for that matter.
The Central City Rogues have it pretty rough in Iron Heights. And I am pretty sure the prisoners of Belle Reve or Lockdown 6 are miserable and have their civil rights violated. The point that I am trying to make is, Prison/Criminal Sanitariums suck, and if you want to see life inside them you're going to have to get used to the idea that characters you like are miserable in there.
Now in Batman TAS they had to play that down, make a joke out of the revolving doors of Arkham and how easy it is for them all to escape. But from my experience with comics, and Batman/Arkham based ones in general, they are miserable inside the asylum, that's why they escape. Not out of boredom.
When I say boredom I meant for the readers, watching them just interact is neat and everything but it would get stagnant fast. And if you are really adverse to the idea of these rogues getting abused, never read Shadow of the Bat.
