oh yeah.. well.. I took the original capture in RAW mode with my D80.. 18mm.. then used CaptureNX to make several different exposures (in jpeg) by using the Black/White/Neutral points (keeping the black and grey the same and moving the white point)..

I tried to get more detail to pop out of the tree because the original exposure was rather dark and only the sky was correctly exposed..

then I used the three exposures in Photomatrix pro to make an HDR..

then I used Photoshop CS3 to do levels, Gaussian blur (blend soft light 30%), then I masked everything but the sky and lowered the gamma on just the sky (because by bringing more detail out of the tree I overexposed the sky)..

then I reduced the noise in the image using neat image.. I don't really remember the settings because it changes for every photo that I do (well.. that's true for all the settings.. but I just can't remember)..

and whamo there it is.. it's good to do an HDR from the same RAW because it eliminates unwanted blur..

peace out

eric

Okay .... this .. is ... bloody fantastic!!! (Yes ... bloody!) Coming from that last photo 'Soft Pan', the power of nature sense is doubled times ten. Definitely another fave for my collection. I just think that the swirling cloud is so dramatic. Kinda scary yet beautiful all at once. I love how you've given it all that room at the top to play in as well. It's such a contrast to the seemingly sunny rocks.

The tree may need to be a tad lighter just to lift it from the clouds, if possible ... to appear more in keeping with the rocks that are at the same distance. Other than that, this is right up there with my faves of your work!!

Oh yes! It's still a lovely dark green but now you can see more of the leaves. The cloud continues to look awesome too. Well done on getting the balance

simple-squamous In reply to lunarsparks [2008-09-11 03:42:53 +0000 UTC]

I made the adjustment.. but now the clouds have lost some of their "umph".. I guess you could say.. I am not good enough to really good selections and masks to change the tree and nothing else.. so it's a game of give and take..

thank you so much!

I was thinking the same thing.. I need to play with the NEF a little more to see how much detail I can recover..

All kinds.. most recently Capture NX.. CS3.. Neat Image.. and Photo Matrix Pro...

every program has its strengths and weaknesses..

if you come and hang out with Alethea and I.. I can show you how to work the programs

take it easy brother
