This is a fantastic depiction. So well-detailed and so well done. in every way. I particularly like the choice of including antique elements such as muscle cuirass. Prior awareness of the icons aside, this is what one hope to see in a Mediaeval Roman army. It's already a pleasure to see pteruges in Byzantine reconstructions, but the muscle cuirass, some standard forms and such elements help a lot to visually bridge the gap and get the Roman-ness across.
Also, and please pardon me asking, but would you by any chance be interested in helping out the volunteer project known as the Ninth Age (T9A for short: www.the-ninth-age.com/ )? It is the spiritual successor of Warhammer Fantasy, run by 300+ volunteer contributors all tinkering in their spare time, and it aims to go even further than Warhammer did along the paths of historically based dark fantasy smörgåsbord setting: i.imgur.com/dlmQkB6.jpg
Moreover, T9A is always welcoming artists who want to join their art team, and your skill and distinctive designs would be great to have on board, should you ever be interested in joining and help develop this setting by putting your own distinctive mark upon its art pool. If you would by any chance be interested in donating old artworks of yours, then here is a quick guide for T9A gallery upload of art contributions: i.imgur.com/ORLCncV.jpg
I can get you in E-mail contact with the head of their art team, if ever you're interested.
At any rate, splendid artworks! Evocative to boot, and detailed like a dream. Have a nice day.

Thank you! I wish you luck in your project!
Thank you for inviting me to it! If I'd have a spare time I'd gladly join your artists team. For now I'm working all the days. Spaming all known comissions forums with my art wasn't a wasting time for me)) Now I nearly able to do all this work...

FUCKING AMAZING PIECE OF ART! Now, let's breath... I'm OK. Now, let me get this straight. Did Bizantines (or Eastern Romans) turned to using phalanx again? I had no idea of this. In fact, I thought they used standard infantry, you know, armor, shield, spatha and some other weapon. But a phalanx, good lord! Alexander would be proud!

By the Praecepta Militaria, there must be two ranks of hoplitae with nearly 4 meters pikes, then 2 ranks of archers, and 2 ranks of hoplites again. Its said what for the better protection from the enemy heavy cavalry attacks, there also must be 1 rank of menavlatoi in the front. Menavlatoi must be chosen from the strongest thematic recruits, and, as I understand, menavla - is a heavy spear, like one for hunting the bears or something... The menavlatoi also have two heavy darts. So it's not the same thing with the ancient phalanx, but this must be an extremely useful well-trained infantry the byzantines had due to the thematic administration system, in the times of the Macedonian Renaissance.

It's called the Bayeux Tapestry in English. ^^ I quite agree with you, by the way.
