I redid the lace and changed a few things to the lineart.

Yeah, the coloring here is excellent. I especially like the detail with the lace...that's very hard to do well. And I have to agree, smoking--defitinately a turn-off, lol but that's just me. One thing about backgrounds you can do to help yourself is to draw from perspective. It can be a pain in the ass but it's very useful even for simple stuff like this. (it's best to do the background on a seperate image though, because that way you can actually check your perspective lines when they might otherwise be off the actual finished piece's page).

The lightness is done with an addition-layer in open canvas. It kinda like dodge.. but not really. I don't think the addition layer type can be found in photoshop

Hmm. Maybe Either Blend mode - Linear dodge or something. I'll have to play around with it and see if I can get it to do that. But it's probably not worth the effort. Airbrushing in the highlights seems a little simpler.
Interesting thought though. Hm...

Although i don't like the true Anime style that much (i like the drawing style, but I like realistic drawings, so a lot of animes for me are, like, waliking the edge between fine art and bad drawing), this is by far the best i've seen so far. Keep up the good work.

Hehe. I know. I don't smoke myself but I wanted her to be in a bar setting.
Giving her a cigarette and a martini was the cheapest way I knew to achieve that.. without drawing an entire bar.
