Summer Wind and Snow Blossom (Fluttermac)

Rainfall (SoarinDash)


"Snowy!" - Summer Wind grabbed his little sister.

"Ah want to see the river! This parupet is too high."

"It's called "parapet" - doesn't Ms Cherilee teach you how to spell words? And don't you understand that it is dangerous to climb on it? What if you fall down? You aren't a pegasi - you can't fly!"

"I know,"  - Snow Blossom answered with a snarl. Summer Wind sighed - his sister hated it when others reminded her that she is unable to fly, but he had to say that. Blossom though already forgot it and her attention was drawn to other things.

"Hey, Rainfall!"

"Huh?" - rainbow maned mare, who remained silent all this time, looked a bit confused.

"When will you marry mah brother?"

Summer Wind looked at his friend and coughed. By doing so he warned Rainfall from making another lecture about "breeding instinct", "idiocy of love" etc. He was used to such statements from Rainbow Dash's eldest daughter, but didn't want his sister to get influenced by such cynical views.

Rainfall though didn't seem to be in the mood for talk.

"Eh," - that was the only thing she managed to say to curious Blossom so far.

"How do ya like Cloudsdale Academy? Must be so cool to study in the sky! Do ya study in one class with the same teacher?"

"Academy is organized in a bit different way than school, Snowy," - smiled Summer Wind, - "want me to tell you a little about it?"

"Ya bet! Rainfall?" - Snow Blossom jumped to young mare and elbowed her.

"Ouch!"

"No sleeping!"

"Snowy!" - Summer Wind drew her away by tale, - "what did our father told you about such behavior?"

"Yeah, sorry..."

Young stallion looked at Rainfall again. He was right, she seemed to be in that somber mood again. Such moods began visiting her some time ago and Summer Wind couldn't help worrying about his friend. Rainfall has always been serious and could even look gloomy sometimes, but such state of depression wasn't normal for her. He wasn't sure what was happening to Rainfall, since she avoided talking about these her moods to anypony, but something obviously was wrong...

Вообще, в чём-то они как раз похожи - обе гордые и довольно высокого мнения о себе, при этом боятся проявлять всякую мягкотелость и переживают за репутацию (у одной "крутость", у другой "серьёзность") Вот только по мере взросления Рэйнфолл всё больше принялась подавять в себе эмоциальную сторону, из-за чего у неё начались серьёзные проблемы. В детстве-то она была несколько другой.

At least to be something like that for her.

But yes, the colour of their clothes do hint at their personalities, moods and relationship. Depressed Rainfall, who suppresses her emotions, and Summer Wind, whose worldview is much brighter and who tries to pull her out of her somber state.

Well, are there some gloomy themes I smell in the story. Seems all that seriousness and cold pragmatic views are robbing Rainfall of some of her joy or are things going into some ... darker directions. I suppose we will see.
Naturally, I do like the picture, excellent detail and atmosphere, you took the time to fill every part with something, from the airship a small boat. The rows of trees are actually a nice way to illustrate perspective. This picture almost looks like a textbook example of that.

Oh and methinks there seems to be a mistake in your story. You should replace 'why' with 'what' in this sentence: "why did our father told you about such behavior?"

Thanks! Your guesses are correct - in short, Rainfall supresses her emotional side more and more, trying to subdue it to reason, but it leaves less and less joy for her, Where it will lead... in the description to this picture  you can find a hint of where it will lead Rainfall.

Yes, this picture surely took some time to finish. Btw I drew Rainfall in black clothes and Summer Wind - in white for a reason as well.

That is a very good detail with the colouring. I can't believe I completely missed how much Rainfall's black clothes stand out from the rest of the picture. Well, it is not very good in terms of its mood but I like these subtle indications, a much better way to treat this subject than just plain on the nose depiction of the depressed state. Real depression after all, is something unclear and subtle.

Depression is a fearsome thing, that's true. You can guess that she is wearing a scarf for a reason as well. Btw in the previous picture I played with the colours a bit too: Summer Wind's clothes are in "warm" colours, while Rainfall's dress is "cold" and "icy".

Yes, indeed. I am also beginning to notice how Rainfall, unlike her mother, does not really include any rainbow motif in her clothes. It's always only the mane and tail she inherited. Her dresses and clothes appear simple and plain, without many details or lush decorations, unlike any of the extravagant dresses of Rainbow Dash. Come to think of it, even Rainfall's mane always has the blues and purples in the forefront.
