Now, before you start creating flame wars and begin any sort of bickering within the comments, READ MY RANT FIRST, PLEASE!!!Now, I'm sure most, if not ALL of you guys reading this are familiar with our little purple draconic hero, Spyro.
Ever since with his new... *ahem* interesting design released in 2011, the Spyro fandom has never been more toxic. I'm talking about all three sides: Classic, Legend and Skylanders.
When the day of Skylanders's debut came to be, all three sides had been clashing in at one another, ranging in at horrible insults to even more awful threats.
And unfortunately, some people just never, ever learn and keep attacking the opposing sides.
And if you're curious, then yes, I do prefer Classic Spyro over LoS/Skylanders since it was my childhood.
Okay, I admit, I USED to be a HUGE Skylanders hater back in 2011.
Actually, I began to warm up more toward his redesign in 2014.
And with the Netflix-exclusive show out, Skylanders Academy, I love the cocky little shit's design even more than before.
However, with the reel of Skylanders Academy, all three sides of the fandom had started bickering at one another once more.
Especially this year with season 2 revealing two new, very familiar characters: Cynder and Malefor.
Basically, with how their backstories were altered and retold in a different light, especially with new designs and voices... Yea, that was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Dear Classic/LoS Fans:Β No, Classic Fans, not every single one of you guys are basement-dwelling man-children that refuse to grow up. And no, LoS Fans, not every single one of you guys are edgy, little angsty teenagers. You guys make terrific fanart and stories of the two redemptions of Spyro. It is okay if some of you guys dislike Skylanders. We're all human, and unique in our own lights. We have our likes, and our dislikes. It is completely and utterly a-okay to not like a freaking video game/comic book/tv show series. No one should ever harass you guys for your disliking of Skylanders. However, I do see that some of you guys like Skylanders, actually. That's perfectly fine, and no one should ever bring you down for it. That's their cranky-ass problem, not yours. Just hang on there!Β
However, for the dislikers that do shun and jeer Skylander fans out there, please for the love of God don't stoop to that level. Others will back away from you and even unfriend you. You guys gotta understand that a lot of younger kiddos play Skylanders, and if they see any sort of hate-stuff relating to their cute fantasy game, they'll start to feel bad for liking and playing it.
Do not listen to others that hate you guys for liking Classic/LoS. That's their nasty-ass problem, not yours. Like my father once told me, don't be embarrassed about something you're not embarrassed about.
If you dislike Skylanders, that's alright. Personally, I don't care. Unless if you start targeting and bullying others who like the series.
If you like Skylanders/Classic/LoS, awesome. But I don't care very much though, since I like all three of those redemptions already and don't see it as anything too special.
Yea, we get it dislikers of Skylanders, Spyro's new design raped your childhoods and killed the franchise. Just please keep that opinion to yourself unless asked about it, okay?
Dear Skylanders Fans: No, Skylanders fans, not every single one of you guys are prepubescent, little whiny shits that never touched a Classic/LoS cartridge. You guys make great fanart and stories. It is okay to dislike Classic/LoS. Like I mentioned earlier, everyone is unique, and has their own likes and dislikes. If you like Classic/LoS, then okay, that's all cool. However, I do see that some of you guys like to attack others who do like Classic/LoS, calling them man-children and haters and whatnot. If you meet someone that hates Skylanders, then whatever, not your problem. It's a video game, do not get so worked up on it. It's all just simply fantasy elements.
If you dislike Classic/LoS, then okay, I really don't care. Unless you start attacking them, then we got a problem.
If you like Classic/LoS, awesome. However, I don't care much.
Yea, we get it Classic/LoS dislikers, most of them bully you and others alike who like the game with Spyro's ugly redesign in it and you don't like to hear it. Just keep that to yourselves unless asked about it, okay?
Remember, everyone: All sides have their good apples, and their bad apples.
Don't just assume every Classic/LoS fan hates Skylanders, and every Skylanders fan hates Classic/LoS. It might just be the other way around sometimes...

Yeah. I don't think the Legends and Skylanders series are banes to classic Spyro. I believe that those series can be used to build up the Spyro lore in the classic games.
That ways, it saves time and effort. Why make new things when you can recycle later series concepts to make something really great and expansive?

I personally like Skylander Spyro. There is more development to his character and there are other characters other than dragons and monsters.

I was originally a part of the Skylanders community, but now I support Classic and LoS Spyro more. I donβt hate Skylander Spyro, because without him, I never would have found LoS or Classic Spyro. I believe that all members of any Spyro fandom should at least find some sort of understanding. Thatβs just my opinion.

Oh boy. You should see the Spy Kids community. I donβt know what happened, but they are a tiny community. And not a very good one at that. Not only do they assume that Spy Kids and Machete share the same universe (which they DON'T, and if they did, it would not work at all www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/commentsβ¦ ), but also have no idea on how opinions work, judge things solely by appearance, and are divided by the original trilogy, the fourth movie, and the Netflix series. And some people who arenβt part of the fanbase just love to hate on it, to the point of ransacking and vandalising the Spy Kids Wiki to express their hate, and pointing and laughing at it, thinking it's a joke wiki. They also compare Spy Kids with literally everything ever, like βooo, this looks like it's from Spy Kids, this guy looks like a Thumb-Thumb, this girl looks like a Fooglie, blah blah blah.β

I know I'm probably late to the party on this, but man, I don't think I've ever related to a rant more in my life. I wasn't around in the time of the original Spyro games or LoS, being introduced to all of it through Skylanders; and honestly I don't understand the hate directed to either side.
Skylanders will always hold a special place in my heart, the redesign of the purple dragonfly included, and while I understand why some people might not like the redesign of him seeing as it doesn't quite stick to the original cannon, that doesn't give people the right to hate on those who do like it - and vise versa.
I don't actually know where I was going with this comment, so I'mma probably leave it here, but nonetheless: great rant. Amazing art. I'm surprised I didn't find you sooner. Keep up the good work.

I grew up playing both the Classic and LoS trilogies. I enjoyed both, and their nostalgic games built up my love for childhood, love for video gaming, love for dragons and love for fantasy. When Skylanders came out in 2011, I was furious about what they did to Spyro. Yea, at one point, as stated in my long-ass rant, I hated Skylanders with every itty-bitty fibre of my being.
However, I calmed myself down and gave the game a chance, and learned to accept Spyro's new face. And you know what? I ended up loving Skylanders. I loved the atmosphere the game gave off, it reminded me of those old PS2 RPGs and stuff. I was also impressed with the vast selection of unique characters who each possessed different appearances, personalities, backstories and abilities. I grew to love these interesting characters, and even gained a few top-tier favorites, such as Spyro, Cynder, Whirlwind, Pop Fizz, Bouncer, Drobot, Stealth Elf and many others.
I began to lose lots of interest with the series starting Superchargers, so I quit collecting and moved onto other things. Once the Netflix show was greenlit, I became hooked again, lmao. But honestly, Skylanders Academy is the only thing that's still keeping me in the fanbase, as I don't play Skylanders anymore. However, this does not mean I don't like Skylanders, as I actually learned a lesson from the series, which is to accept change and learning to move on from the old and into the new. Plus, I have lots of memories with the games as well.
And let's be real: Skylanders Academy Spyro and Cynder are super cute, lol.

Honestly, the Spyro fanbase made me lose interest in Classic Spyro; I used to love the Classics, until the fanbase totally RUINED my interest for it. Iβm neutral on TLOS, as I havenβt played any of the games, but I love Skylanders

Yea, it kinda did too, sadly. I still love Classic, don't get me wrong, but seriously, some of their fans are just flat-out wack-in-the-head and crazy. This might sound a bit stupid, but as Thumper from Disney's Bambi once said, "If you got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all." I wish this tactic worked on these butthurt fans sometimes, ya know?
LoS was OKAY, I liked it a hella lot as a young teen since it contained lots of melodramatic elements, but replaying it nowadays.... Eh..? It's more banal and cliched than I remembered it being, lol. It actually felt a tad bit like a Hobbit/LotR ripoff, actually.
I'm not as into Skylanders as I used to be, but I still like the franchise for what it was worth.

It's pretty sad since the Spyro trilogy as a whole is amazing. However, the rancid side of the fanbase always has to ruin the fun for everyone.
My opinions on Crash? I've always loved that Bandicoot - his redesigns never bothered me since I saw really no change, he's still the same character.

I played every Spyro game, and the three versions had its own essence, and I love it all. But with the constant hatred amongst the fans of one of the versions, like Original, Legend or Skylanders which are saying what the other is the worst and they chose is better, there's no balance and love as a fan. It's most a cruel popularity contest.
If you don't love something, it's really freaking neccesary to blame and curse it just because you love the other one more than nothing?

Skylanders would be fun to play if it wasn't so repetitive and easy. Though I do agree that the design of Spyro is absolutely hideous. I don't know who designed that and thought "Hell yes, my best work yet". TLoS is worse than Skylanders imo. It's actually the worst that could've happened to the series. Hopefully the original Spyro trilogy will get the same treatment Crash did and that might create a demand for new games in the classic continuity and style. That would be the only reason for me to purchase a PS4.

Iβm not even a Skylanders fan anymore. Iβm more of a fan of Classic Spyro mainly because I grew up playing the trilogy. I also love LoS Spyro but not Skylanders Spyro. As for me,I want a Skylanders 7,I really really really want Toys for Bob and Vicarious Visions to make Skylanders a Major Sucess,Sure I'm not a fan of Activision's other Games like Call of Duty or Destiny but Skylanders is actually the only game that I think is good from them(Second is Crash Bandicoot) I really want them to try new ideas like instead of Kaos being the villain they should add Malefor,Adding Spyro's Old Friends and Enemies like Hunter,Sheila,Agent 9,Ripto and Gnasty Gnorc to appear as Playable Characters,New Adventures and many more,I feel Really bad for Toys for Bob and Mr I Wei Huang,Because a bunch of Spyro Fans(The ones who act like spoiled children) Call them the Spyro killers because they're ones that redesigned Spyro,I think Mr I Wei's Art looks great BTW.I do wish that the fans of all 3 Spyros could get along,I played the Classic Spyro Games and they were good,I didn't played the Legends games but that doesn't mean I think they're terrible,I love Skylanders more because they come up with some creative ideas for characters and really good figure designs.I'll Respect your opinion if you can respect mine.Also do you think Actvision should reboot Skylanders?

NO. Activision should not reboot Skylanders. I believe that a TV show and possible upcoming mobile game is enough. I feel as though they've milked Spyro to his core already, and personally, I believe that Activision started losing ideas once Trap Team came out. That, in my opinion is when Skylanders officially died and gotten worse.
What many fans and I would love is a Spyro reboot, with SPYRO as the main character.
Sure, I would also love it if they were to add LoS and Skylanders elements in there too, like some of their lore and characters. The game would basically be a mix of all three series, but with Spyro as the main focus.
