You can either use the button that says "Add Media" to add a icon/gif in like this
Or, you type :icon
Insert whatever icon you want to put there and end it with another :
The icon has to be an existing account on Deviant Art to do this. However, a lot of people make PLZ accounts or other accounts just to satisfy this need.
So let's say I wanted to add a Fluttershy here. The account would be named "Fluttershyplz" then I would just type ":icon :" around the account. So it should look like

Or if I wanted to insert myself somewhere, I'd type ":icon Rexlare :" Get rid of those spaces and you'll have
Now all you have to do is find the accounts you want.

Did you copy the name off of the page or something? Because it likely copied the LINK rather than just the typing.
Try typing the whole name instead.
Also the quotation marks aren't needed, I just added those to clarify what names I'd type in.
