Description A quick painting I like very much despite the darkness. Dawarda, the underdark IS darkness.
Beware the things that might lurk in the debths...

This is my favourite OC Cronachan again. After four months I finally painted him again. The lettering on the right reads *Welcome To Dawarda*.

Photoshop CS2, about two hours, on and off.

Hm... it looks much brighter on my own screen. Is it too dark?
I hate my new screen. Nothing looks right.

Edit: I compared how this picture looks on four different screens and it seems to be ok now (I lighted it up a wee bit). The darker side of his face is meant to be barely visible/very dark with only the glowing eyes.

It looks quite dark on this screen, but my computer is fairly rubbish when it comes to such things. Regardless, the eyes come off very strongly as you intended, and I love the symbols on the right!

Thank you so much! If the darker side of his face is barely visible except the eye, it is like I intended it to look. I am glad you like it and thank you very much for the nice comment!

Unfortunately, I don't speak Irish... I visited Ireland on vacation almost 20 times though..

Sorry! Haha, now I feel silly. ;D But that's awesome! I live in Ireland, so I'm mostly all about trying to get out, but I'd say I'd miss it if I went away for a bit.

Ireland is a wonderful country with very nice people! I LOVE it! Mostly we tend to want what we cannot have though
You don't have to feel silly. It is great you speak this wonderful, melodious and ancient language. I could listen to peaople speaking irish all day. It sounds... wonderfully unique...

I very much agree that we want what we cannot have. Actually, I find it really interesting that the people who are most interested in Irish culture are the ones who can't access it easily. When you have it at your fingertips, it's just not as cool!

<3 I'm glad you think so, though I wouldn't describe my accent as melodious. Too South Dublin for that, I'm afraid. Still, I do like the language, though I'd like it more if I'd learned it voluntarily, haha.

I find that each one comes more easily than the last, probably because your brain gets used to accepting bizarre grammatical nonsense.

Siobhan68 In reply to veganomics [2010-06-11 21:53:59 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately that is not the same for me. At the beginning I need a long time to grasp the basics and accumulate enough vocabulary, the rest comes through reading. I had latins and english in scholl. English stayed and now more that 50 % of my books are english, as are my DVDs!

veganomics In reply to Siobhan68 [2010-06-11 22:00:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, your English is certainly excellent! I agree about reading, definitely, and the internet is wonderful. The problem with having English with your first language is it's hard to get motivated to find stuff to watch and read in other languages. Especially in Irish, because let's face it, there's not really a huge Irish language entertainment industry, haha.

That is sooo true... I couldn't enjoy most of my hobbies (movies, books, RPG) without english so I am very happy to finally master it. Thanks for the compliment!

It is a pity though, when old languages diminish...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siobhan68 In reply to Mithgariel [2010-05-09 08:30:04 +0000 UTC]

I already started on it. I cut out an oval in the lid so to say and put a good, laminated print of the portrait behind it. The inside of the folder will be covered in thin, black cardboard. To make that leather too is to expensive with a big folder. ...and this way I will have enough leather left over to bind another one. I want to paint Cronachan's name on the back again with white paint. If I put his other meafar on it I don't know yet.
Of course I will put it up here, once it is finished!

Now it makes sense. I know little about such things. Tormenting my brain on making a lizard head atm... Argh. Not so crafty as I wish I was...

Siobhan68 In reply to Mithgariel [2010-05-09 10:08:20 +0000 UTC]

A lizard head.... A mask? A skulpt?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mithgariel In reply to Siobhan68 [2010-05-09 12:20:36 +0000 UTC]

For our LARP. For a lizardman race, in sorta helmet shaped, supposed to cover his head, ears, partially nose. So far I've got it in food plastic (or whatever it be called, taped the guy into it ) and lots of black tape (also some paper mass under the tape for spinal cord and ears).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siobhan68 In reply to Mithgariel [2010-05-09 12:43:37 +0000 UTC]

Hm... Doesn't sound too bad. With a bit of paint you will sure manage to create a cool lizard head.
It could look cool to use some shining foil from wrappings or the like and cut out some scales to emphasize eyes or the spinal cord....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mithgariel In reply to Siobhan68 [2010-05-09 13:37:28 +0000 UTC]

Have to think of something to cover the tape, though. Since it ain't paper tape, acrylics hardly stick on it... :/ I really really hope I can manage, because I insisted I can do it on my own and I don't want to fail Stuart and myself. I know she could do it with ease, but... I wanna prove I'm worth something, too.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siobhan68 In reply to Mithgariel [2010-05-09 13:58:18 +0000 UTC]

Hm... *thinks* You could cover the whole thing with paper and PVAC glue. You dilute the glue with water and take pieces of old newspapers, soaking them in the mixture. Cover all with about three layers of this stuff. It takes long to dry and harden but it is easy to paint and will strengthen the construction.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mithgariel In reply to Siobhan68 [2010-05-09 14:08:00 +0000 UTC]

Yep, that's pretty likely, but how to achieve some scale texture, that's the tricky thing so far for me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siobhan68 In reply to Mithgariel [2010-05-09 14:16:01 +0000 UTC]

Hm... If you want to cover all in paper and paint it anyways... cut out some scales from cardboard and glue them on the surface during the process. That should do it!

Mithgariel In reply to Siobhan68 [2010-05-10 09:45:28 +0000 UTC]

Will try. I already want to get to the painting part... that's something I possibly can do, and which could be fun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mithgariel In reply to Siobhan68 [2010-05-10 09:52:31 +0000 UTC]

I will surely upload the finished result. It's going to take some time, though, because I am short of time. But I'll try and catch the guy who's supposed to wear it today, and try it on him to make some cuts and measurements before I proceed.

Siobhan68 In reply to Mithgariel [2010-05-10 09:54:42 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mithgariel In reply to Siobhan68 [2010-05-10 11:36:53 +0000 UTC]

Can't be too bad, because the base was made by overtaping the guy's head, but I'll have to check that it won't cover his eyes or ears.
