that looks awesomly complicated! how long did it take? bet it was worth the effort!

It took a few hours for me to do - I'm very slow, some people can pop them out in no time, but I do take time with my manips, manily because:
1) I'm a novice and don't really know what I'm doing.
2) I have a job.
3) I have a year old daughter who takes up my time too.
4) I have a life outside of DA!
Lot of hit and miss and deleting layers then putting them back etc! I could do with a professional manipulator going through the full process for me from stock to how to get imagaes on the screen etc..Hunting for the correct stock is a big thing for me, I love looking in stock galleries there are some brilliant artists who let us use their fantastic work to work with. My hat goes off to them all and always will. If I get one good comment on a manip I have done, in my eyes, it has been worth the effort.

Wow - this looks like a steam-punk version of Dracula's castle!

I'll say thank you, but I haven't got a clue what steam-punk is! Sounds good though.

Hera-of-Stockholm In reply to sioux-she [2008-04-13 10:16:45 +0000 UTC]

Well you know cyber punk - the SF genre that deals with computers and artificial intelligences and a futuristic take on the internet in a future often dystopic on a polluted planet with a lot o civil wars and stuff going on.
Then steam-punk is a version that takes place in some kind of 19:th century instead, in kind of Victorian society. Sometimes it's on Earth in an alternate reality and sometimes it's on imaginary worlds just like in regular fantasy.
Then steam-fantasy is another very similar genre where you have added magic elements and beings like vampires, elves and such. It might as well take place in present time.
There is also an SF-fantasy sub group too that takes place in the future and with magic and magic beings added, and sometimes with space flight too. NOW we're talking complicated. Little did Tolkien and Jules Verne know what they started.

One of my unfinished novellas is SF-fantasy because it deals with artificial intelligences and super computers and takes place in space mostly but it also features dark and fair elves and vampires.

Awesome - your a font of knowledge.
Unfinished novellas? Sounds interesting - do you write for publishing or a hobby?

I see it in my sister, she works like a dog. Granted she works for herself so office politics etc doesn't come into play, but she works such long hours which does worry me. But like she says, she wants the best life can give her and this is the only way she knows how. I gave up working long hours once I had Mia, now I only do 16 hours a week, money is short but I get by and have a little one who is growing up to be a very kind, beautiful person. Who I am very proud of - even if she is a monkey sometimes!
As long as there is something to show for all the hard work you put into life thats what matters. s

Yeah that's the problem, I work to feed myself, pay the rent and pay those f***ing taxes. But within a few years or else my programming code will be obsolete. I'md not the one who create cathedrals, I just do my little things. And if I'll ever become remembered it'll be just pure luck. It used to bother me when I was younger but not so much more these days. I'm fine if I can get some "Hera time" now and then and have a good time... Like hanging here and talking to fab people like you

I always used to wish I would get a lucky break somewhere along the line but its not come yet! I'm in the process of designing snowboard art work which my sis is showcasing for me to one of her clients next week, so I may have something good happen soon. I love vector work, none of which I have ever posted on DA (mm maybe I should one day!) but its such an ever changing world in the design field its hard to keep up with the everyday trends when your not in with the 'in crowd' as such.
I'm having a guilt trip at the moment, one of my cats has just jumped on the desk and I've just realised that in my hurry to get home I forgot to get them food for tonight! Poor thing is purring so loud, now I feel bad! woops!
Yes its good to have some 'chill' time.

Yeah, I'm having this week almost off. Had to help my parents yesterday eve and then today I have to visit a customer who is showcasing his art in a gallery close by and then to make a slideshow for a computer magazine's website. But the rest of the time is MINE. And I really should be cleaning my flat which looks like a dump, but I've decided that "what the heck!" It's amazing how a place could be so dusty and messy when you're hardly there

The cleaning can wait! I've just got back from a kiddies party and now Mia has gone next door to play so have got an hour or so to chill and get house sorted! Its never ending
