Description I get really tired of ignorant fools who think Russia is still Socialist.

This is not meant to make a statement against Communism or Socialism, it merely meant to inform those that think the Russian system is still based on these beliefs.

The Russian Federation & Soviet Russia are 2 completely different things:
The Russian Federation is the current day Russia which isn't the largest territory in the USSR anymore.
Soviet Russia was Russia during a Communist And Socialist environment along with Leninism, Marxism, and Stalinism.

2 VERY big differences in there ya know.

I'm also sick of people who think we like Stalin.
I have a friend in school who is a big fan of Russia and that is fine, but he owns a Soviet banner hung in his bedroom, a Soviet ushanka (I own one too, IT'S MY DADS THOUGH ), Soviet coat, and believes in Stalin...Maybe it is all the games and movies?

There is a difference between Socialism and Communism, you know. In Socialism, the government takes care of people's basic needs while the people control everything else. In Communism, the government controls everything. I am not disrespecting Capitalism, I just wanted to make sure you knew the distinction.

Russia and Germany are still being thought by ignorants as Communistic(Russia) and Socialistic Nazism(Germany.)

They do not realize that these countries are of people who are the same as we are, and a nation should never be judged by its government. Both countries have evolved to democracies and are powerful in the world market.

Russian and German culture are my two passions of mine, and it disturbs me to see the bigotry of the assumption that both countries have remained in Socialism and Communism. This could not be further from the truth.

White-over-blue In reply to Tete-DePunk [2011-09-01 17:23:25 +0000 UTC]

all the 195 countries of today's world are painted in fallacies by people who couldn't care less about someone else's culture; Russia and Germany are not the only ones by a really long shot. In my experience, I've found people who were capable and persistent that:
1-Germany has coins with a picture of Hitler on them
2-China is bigger than Russia because Russia "separated from the other communists states."
3-Mexico = the only country that speaks Spanish, and that all of South America is part of Mexico

and my favourite one:
4-Austria is just misspelled "Australia"

Oh goodness. I had a girl in seventh grade say that Austria was the capital of Australia, which was in Europe, according to her. And another asked if the Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese spoke the same language, because they were all Communist (I had a silent fit of giggles in the back of the room with the last one)

haahaa! would've loved to be there! The fallacy that all the far east countries speak Chinese is very popular in the western world, huh?

Not too long ago, I got a Canadian guy who asked how many words do Mexicans have for "taco." First I face-palmed, and then explained that taco β‰  quesadilla, or burrito, or flauta, or fajita, or enchilada, or tostada... etc., but it was like if my words were nothing to him :\

Thank you for the laudatory reply!
Yes, unless we educate ourselves and reason beyond the parameter of general assumptions, we will be stagnated with stereotypes and bigotry.
Also, being Pennsylvanian German, my father told me his grandparents were not allowed to speak their native language(German)-and they had been Americans since our family had immigrated here to the USA in 1672-as it was deemed anyone of German heritage was automatically a Nazi. People fail to realize the Nazis were a governmental establishment(or a political party), not the entirety of the people.

YouΒ΄re welcome!

Oh thatΒ΄s cool, and really strange, that other Americans were able to discriminate Germans at all, because 50-60 mio of the US-Americans are German-Americans, so why do the German-Americans not try to stop that discrimination with big actions? I would protest against it, and force Hollywood to show also german history movies, not always France and England, when itΒ΄s about Europe XD

Tete-DePunk In reply to Arminius1871 [2011-08-13 16:43:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you again. Please pardon the tardy reply, but familial and academic obligations have prevented me from punctually answering to your response, sir.

Yes, this was done to Japanese-Americans and Italians-Americans as well.
In fact, during WWI, there numerous incidents of people being arrested for speaking German, and even a pastor was arrested because he prayed a missionary in Germany.
In my native state of Pennsylvania, the German population is 28.5%, garnering the state as the top three with highest German-American ethnic demographic.
Unfortunately, the German language is endangered here, as there is diminishing number of people speaking and sustaining the language spoken, many believe it could be due to the negative annotations of the language being banned from being spoken during both World Wars. But my father's grandparents spoke Germany fluently, they used the German language(it is a variation of the German language called Pennsylvanian German: [link] more frequently than English.
Also, they had spoken to my father in German(my father was born ten years after the end of the Second World War)until he was four, he still recall his uncle warning his parents not to resume speaking Germany again as it incite fraction.

As for any legal action taken, it was a matter of patriotism, anyone would have acted on it would have been labeled "Un-American" and such a stigma was a risk factor during those times of ethnic and racial tensions in the US.
But yes, I do heartily concur with you, sir, that all sides must be represented in any discussion of this matter.
It is my fond hope we can continue our correspondence.
