Description This couch, part of my most recent pinup (and originally intended ONLY to be a background piece, something for the subject to sit on) ended up being the most difficult and intricate thing I've done in vector yet. I am in dire need of upgrading my computer, because while this piece was saving I had time to make a sandwich and say a silent prayer that my PC didn't catch fire.

213,337 points and way more time altering minute details than I truly care to think about. I think the wood grain alone took me three hours to get just the color and grain I liked (using a tutorial I found through Google). If that amount of work doesn't deserve its own deviantart submission, nothing I've done so far does.

Illustrator CS5, comments welcome!

EDIT: for those interested, here's the wood grain tutorial video I spoke about: [link] . I made a few small changes in the technique and tweaked some color settings to get the result seen here, but check it out, it's extremely useful.

Wow....that's detailed.  Amazing work, you could design furniture, it looks so accurate. Very Victorian bordello in look.

My wife and I just bought a fainting couch with an 1890 parlor set, and it looks nowhere as cool as the one you designed. Faved!

That's rather impressive. I didn't know Illustrator was capable of that. Then again, the last time I used Illustrator it was version 10.

I really like what you did with the woodgrain and lighting. I also like how you warped the pattern to the shape of the cushions -- is there a command to do that automatically, or did you have to alter each one?
