I could ramble on about how awesome this is and how great your hand drawn art always is, but I want to somehow reflect on it instead of simply reguritating what everyone else has said.
In my English class we recently read Night by Ellie Weisel. It tells of his journey through hell, the Holocaust. I don't want to go too far into it, but the book is little over 100 pages and so powerful. The atrocity that happened in the Nazi death camps seem faded nowadays, but after reading Night and 1984 (by George Orwell) it is all relived.
In 1984 Orwell plays off of the facism, stalinism, hitlerism, and all that crazy dictatorships that have taken place, and as the book reminds us, can still happen. It goes into detail of how the government kept the masses unable to revolt, kept them stupid and satisfied, and overall brainwashed them. I had to do a report relating to 1984, and I choose Nazi Germany. (I'm not in anyway sympathedic to Nazi Germany, it just so happened that many of our books and lesson coincided with the terrible 'ideals' of the Nazis)
I think I'm simply rambling off a book review, so I'll shorten this. At the end of Night by Ellie Weisel Ellie is in the hospital after being liberated by the Americans. He explains how he strained every muscle in his frail body to sit up and see himself in the mirror. He hadn't seen himself during the entire death camp experience. He said he was looking at a living figure of death, every bone visible, the face sunken in and the eye sockets swollen. We've all heard many accounts of Holocaust survivors (and liberators for that matter) seeing the Jews after their death camp experience, and we're frightened and appalled at these walking images of death.
The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this image was clear: Holocaust. A dirty mirror, a dirty wall, and a walking image of death. It's an amazing talent that you have with your hands to be able to transcend such feeling and sorrow and joy at the say time. Someting that should be cherished and put to good use, never stop drawing, and never think your art not worthy of anything. The images in your portfolio are astounding and speak volumes, many times what I've written here (as hard as that is to believe... ;P_). OK, I'm gonna leave now, I'll check out the rest of your gallery later. I'm very glad to have been able to find you on devART. Thanks for sharing

it's bleak and dreary and on the whole a fantastic piece. the feel of it is accentuated by the thick frame (and thin frame of the person). a social or personal commentary?

Well i know i'm at the bottom at the list and my opinion is some what repetative but you commented on a pic og mine and when i read it i had to check out yur art. I REALLY like this picture, your colors are perfect and the sketch tones in the image create a complexity to it. I always enjoy that look. It reminds me of film noir.

Your stuff is always impressive.. I guess its this certain style which is definitely my taste! I really dig this linework, the dark and calm grey tones and the expressive motif. And I like this feeling of depth, turned out pretty cool!
