I use a Nikon D70...and, a little? I boost sharpness, do noise reduction, that sort of thing...

If you're going to convert to b&w, you should really bump up the contrast. Have you tried any of the Lightroom presets? They've worked well for me in the past.

Do you mean a preset as in, there are options for "Grayscale, antique grayscale, etc.? Or are there others?

Like, under Development, in the left-hand section, there are presets like Hi Contrast, B&W Creative, blah blah blah.... Mine has tons and tons, I don't know about you. But I think you can get more online.

I've used "antique grayscale", I think...for a swan picture, I think... and I've played around with Creamtone, I think that was what it was called...and some of the other grayscales...and maybe aged photo, or something like that...

Anyways, just try pumping up contrast. Black and white photos just shine when they're like that.
