As I read "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Hound of the Baskervilles" years ago, I thought that the hound in the illustration looked very terrifying and so scary. Even after Holmes and Watson managed to save Sir Henry Baskerville and fired their guns at the beast, they examined the hound to see that it was covered in phosphorus to give it a ghostly appearance.
