Harry Dexter White wrote a hysterical letter for Henry Morgenthau to
sign, and sent it to FDR. He wrote, “This is the greatest betrayal in
history, if you do it, you’ll be ridiculed; you must stand strong. We’ll
win, They won’t attack.” Of course, he knew that they would attack, but
Roosevelt got the letter, and he told everybody to stand tough. Then
Pearl Harbor happened.
