It's important, I believe, to remember our roots, where we came from, how we grew, and most importantly, to remember what we've lost. Goldsaber as it is known now was formed following the destruction of Alderaan, however it's roots can be traced back earlier, before the Corellian Treaty, and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Before its transition into a Rebel cell, it was an Alderaanian aid organisation, it was established by a young Alderaanian woman, heiress to the Devon family, Isabelle Devon, who sought to use her family's wealth to help those fleeing persecution from the Empire... With the destruction of Alderaan, and the loss of these people, it's easy to forget the sacrifices they made, that which formed the very foundation of Goldsaber... That would be an unforgivable loss. ~Quinn Shara, Extract from one of her published works, "Goldsaber: The Rebellion's Spear" retelling the story of Goldsaber Squadron, from it's initial establishment, to the year 24ABY (date of writing), co-authored by surviving Goldsaber Squardmates, and dedicated to those who'd been lost, this particular extract is dedicated to Alderaan, and the many Alderaanians who perished after it's destruction fighting for justice.

More Star Wars OC AU stuff! And in the aftermath of Hoth Quinn grieves for the fallen, both recent and past, and vows to carry the memory of what they had lost, this burden of remembrance would later manifest itself into the grand vault of the SSD Starchaser, and it's existence as a neutral body, Quinn's own legacy, but that's a tale for another time...

With the death of Isabelle Devon command of Goldsaber falls to the young Corellian Jedi Quinn Shara, and to affirm her resolve as well as vent her grief she carves into her helmet a message of remembrance to her fallen Alderaanian friends...

In the background Goldsaber regroups aboard the Liberty, settling into their temporary cabins and fixing up their battered ships, preparing for whatever may come in the uncertain future. In the hustle and bustle Jaeriel notices a distressed Orchid, who's worried about Quinn's depression following Hoth, Jaeriel herself also senses Quinn's sorrow, though neither she nor Orchid know exactly what happened to Quinn, and both are wary of asking her about the touchy subject... The horrific death of a friend right before her very eyes. In truth though, she probably really does want to talk about it, but is afraid of falling into deeper grief. ;_;

"Remember Alderaan... Quinn, are you crying...?"
"Huh? Oh-! I-it's just... The cutter, is all, it's burning my eyes, y'know?"

The bottom panel recalls one of Isabelle's last aid missions before fully transitioning into a dissident cell, she's accompanied by Chase, who was a fellow Alderaanian and Isabelle's second in command at the time, Quinn's tribute is just as much for Chase as it is for Isabelle. In the background members of Isabelle's organisation (including new members at the time, Juniqua Esteen, and Zomori) distribute aid to displaced refugees, survivors of a massacre who are grateful for the food and clothes Izzy's group are providing. Isabelle herself is forcing a smile, to put the refugees at ease, however seeing victims of the Empire's cruelty, especially it's hatred towards none-humans, fills her sadness, anger, and a rebel's resolve...

"Do you know what the Empire called them, just because of the way they look? Rats, Vermin, and Pests, like they needed to be exterminated, I couldn't just stand by and watch time and time again... When the Empire started attacking my aid transports, that was simply the straw that broke the Bantha's back."

This was fun to do, it actually was just meant to be to show Quinn's personalized pilot helmet, however it turned into something a whole lot more! XD I enjoyed drawing all the background art, which is pretty funny because I generally hate working on backgrounds, I think it's all the ships and people that made it fun, I really enjoy drawing those, it's buildings and such that I hate. Heheh, I really like the little kid with the hat in the bottom right corner, maybe I'll use her again in the future, perhaps years later during the New Republic time period, who knows, I don't even know what race she is, I just made up a design... XD
