Description The second, which I am slowly beginning to like better than the first, just for its more subtle nature.

Great subtle use of PS. The texture grabs you first, mainly complimented by the lighting. The facial expression gives off real emotion, and the tribal painting seems so RAW

Interesting. I like the textures. I would have either cropped the hair out of the upper right-hand corner or covered it. Its about the only thing that distracts from the feel I can see. Nicely done.

i know i been slacking off and its been awhile sense ive commented on your work so be prepared for a onslot of comments as i try and cetch up

with that said on to the pictures.

the angle of pose in this is great and the way you took the picture so close, to me really sets it up showing the texture of the paint this can be takin many difrent ways in some ways it reminds me of a voodoo witch doctor but more so it reminds me of masks. and that saying that we all wear masks to hide what is inside us we dont want others to see. which is brought out more from the expresion in the photo. thats just what i got from it anyways.

Love the composition here...and the fact that no eye is staring directly at me. Nice expression on the face, great contrast between the paint and the black space at the bottom. Just great!

:whatever everybody else said:

......just joking. Anyways, I personally prefer this one, because it leaves a lot to your own thoughts. At the same time, you wonder what the model is thinking. The detail of the skin is great. Lighting is perfect. And because of the sepia and black background, it goes well with your title. All in all, Keep working hard as always.

you've captured the textures here very well. I really like the soft feel this has. even through the mask , one can still see the emotion hidden behind the paint.

I love your new pieces. great work. keep 'em up = ]

What I wanted to show you was a portrait by Alastair Thain, you may have seen it... I can't locate it.

Sorry.

I should have mentioned that I love these.

They are so different, this from your last one.

hmm ... what a hard choice ... forward and fearless, almost curious ... or quiet, melancholy ... *ponders the decision*

you do some amazing things, ya know?

Both of them excel in their own different way.
While the first is impressive for its straight-shooter first impression, this one makes me reflect about your posture. A melancholic posture.
Filled with emotions.

The sadness of the character makes me think that maybe Death needs a vacation from her usual job.

Wonderful portrait - reminds me a bit of tribal facepainting and the calm before they go to war...you're not going to war, are you?
Indeed a very fresh portrait - far from the norm that is reoccuring here and making portrait shots so boring (most of the time).
The toning gives it this dark, melancholic feel.
Wicked piece!

seasick [2003-06-16 07:38:22 +0000 UTC]

It's certainly less confrontational than the first - and probably a better shot for it. In addition to the epic lighting, there's also some amazing detail in there as well.

Another excellent bit of work.

Yeah... i think this one is stronger for some reason.. maybe its just people relate with somber and nostagia more. I do miss the eye, but I feel this one is just stronger. Have one in this pose with eyes slightly open?

Wonderful !!

travail [2003-06-15 22:42:14 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree with you ... this one is much more subtle, and its emotion creeps up on you, rather than punches you in the face (a la the first one). I do like this much better ... it's much more reflective, introspective, and mellow (I don't know if that's the word I'm looking for, but you get me). Again, the contrast is impeccable here ... excellent execution. Envy!

Woa nelly.

This was even better. Sepia can do wonders
(if you don't overuse it like I used to do)
Think I'm gonna fav this.

Reminds me of the work by Misha Gordin. At
least the faces.

Wow, this is so stunning. I picture an actor on stage out for his final performance of a life time. Or maybe some kind of spirit feeling sad for the loss of his host. Either way, it's fantastic

lunaizar [2003-06-15 10:19:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes..I definitely like this one much better, it's more subtle and less straight in yer face. Everything is just more toned down and that suits the subject of the photo much more..

What exactly is a overlay layer though and what does it do to an image? Yeah, I know practically nothing about Photoshop, heh.
