Description
This is by far the most popular piece of art I've ever done. The actual size of this image is enormous, and it took many weeks to actually finish it. This painting made me hate feathers. Probably 2 to 3 days were spent on the wings alone. A great number of little details here and there make this one fun to look at, and it's always cool to hear people imagine what going on in it.Related content

Wings are often one of the most time consuming parts of my paintings (that, and hair). I actually do each feather as a simple shape which I fill with appropriate shadows and highlights, then I use a smear tool to lightly feather out the edges, then touch up little details like the stems and smaller feathers.
