Description Cecil: me

Photo:

ok so lets see I made this costume was made in about a month and 1/2 with a good part of that being during school so working time was sparse and crazy hectic. VERY STUPID IDEA I never learn my lesson please don't try this. It is primarily made of craft foam but some parts were made with other materials. Rasler is by far the hardest costume I have made to date and one that still needs so TLC to fix up those last min rush job errors.

The wig and headband: not much to say here. bought the wig and threw some bangs in it. The headband was just a line of fabric I hemmed and free hand painted what I though was on there.

Cape and Scarf: The cape was hand dyed with a gradient by then I hemmed up the edges. I hemmed the scarf then taped the scarf to my drafing board and individually drew each line on with a 60 degree angle. The lines were spaced to create a gradient that got darker as the lines got closer toward the bottom. At one point near the bottom there even are cross diagonal lines to make it even darker with the crosshatching.

Chestplate: The chest plate is made of all craftfoam. about 5 layers in total at its thickest right over the top portion of my chest. Haha its so stiff there I don't even have to bind for this costume bc it won't move to show anything. The bolts near the bottom of the chest plate are actually cuts of a hot glue stick that provided the perfect little round pieces. The eyelets at the top were actually just glued on bc the width was too thick to hammer it on. The two boob cup pieces actually have little slits in them that are backed where the blue designs are. The piece was later sealed and painted with acrylic paints with all the designs being painted on by hand.

Shoulder horns: omg so many questions on these XD. They are made of foamboard and paperclay. The base was forst made of foamboard froma rough 2 piece model that I would cut off corners and replace with flat pieces until I was happy with the more rounded base. Then I sculpted a rough form of the horn piece out of airdry clay and let it dry for a little while. Then I covered it with packeging tape to keep the papermache from sticking to the base horn and about 5 layers of papermache. Once dry I made a slit from top to bottom of the horn and pulled out the base and did this again for the second horn. Then I would put papermache over the slit to make it into a solid piece again. Next I went back to the base and started adding paperclay to shape the base and sculpt out the ridges on the base. I covered everything except where the horn would go. Then I super glued the horn to the base and covered the horn with paperclay and smoothed out the joint near the base. The horn was dried and later sanded, sealed, and painted. It is attached to the chestplate by 2 elastic straps that are glued into the chestplate.

The shirt and under garmets: The shirt and pants portion were made by me based on altered patterns out of black twill with a layer of black jersey fabric over it .... bc yes I zoomed up that far into his crotch XDDDD. The the shirt has white bias tape in addition to that and the pants are glued into the thigh armor. I also wear normal t shirt underneath the chestplate bc the tecture of his shirt id suppossed to be smooth near the belt but jersey knit near the top. There is also leather knee socks that I wear. I plan to replace these though bc I don't like how the bend when my leg bends and it restricts my movement too much.

Lower arm armor and wristbands. The gauntlets are made of craftfoam and are made in two pieces a top and bottom piece the bottom slips into the top and is held shut by 2 straps on the bottom and the wristbands also it is glued at the top where the band goes around the whole piece. The horn is made the same way I made the horns on the shoulder pieces with papermache and paperclay. The wristbands are just fabric pieces I made and tie on my wrist. The hand guards are all craft foam and then are seprate from the gauntlets and just slip underneath the wrist band.

Belt and armor undies: The belt is beveled craftfoam with an actual belt strap that velcrows closed. The craft foam undies (the most uncomfortable underwear I will ever wear) open and close on the side with velcrow that is hidden on the inside and underneath one of the side pouches.

Thigh armor: made of craft foam with the raised bit being paperclay put ontop. They are one solid piece that is also papermached on the inside for extra support that just slip on my leg and are glued to the pants and stay up by that.

Lower leg armor: this piece was a front and back system that velcrows on the back of the top front piece to the top of the back piece on either side. The flare at the bottom was created by inserting an extra triangle piece into a slit cut in the middle of the piece from the bottom. The top piece was added on later and all the edges are bevel up there to enhance the look. Then the screw stud pieces again are cuts of a hot glue stick.

Shoes: Oh man devil shoes ahaha. They are high heels that originally looked kinda like these [link]
They were taken and first I built a new low heel like the one cecil's shoes have out of craft foam. Then I made the front of the go to a point and make the shoe longer and more manly ... if you can call cecil that XD. Then I would add the ridges layer by layer onto the boot and on one side of the shoes the ridges actually velcro down so I can get my foot in and out of the shoes. The decorative piece was beveled and heat curved and then glued on.

Sealing and paint: The armor was all frist sealed with 2 or 3 layers of mod podge. Then it was painted with acrylic paints. One navy blue and for the majority I used a mix of 4 parts metallic pearl white and 1 part silver to have a white that was more a pire bright white rather than the cream color it normally has. you can tell the difference if you compare Rosa's horns and mine bc hers are done with just metallic pearl white while mine have the blend so hers are more creamy colored while mine has a cleaner brighter white color.

Sword: ughhhh this thing should not exist XDDD soo ghetto. It was originally a prince caspian (narnia) sword from party city that I modified bc i didn't have the time to make one from scratch. I first took it and destroyed most of the hilt except fot one part that convineantly matched cecils somewhat. Then I hacked off the handel and replaced it with a wooded dowel to make the longer handel. Next I sculpted out the new hilt pieces and handle end. Finally I took papermache and made the blade wider. Then I used a woodburner to etch in the inscription on his sword. Sanded the whole thing rubbed silver rub and buff on the blade and painted the rest with navy blue.

This costume was quite rushed but I think turned out ok for the time it was made in there are some mistakes I plan on fixing up for mtac but overall its .. OK

Thanks to all those who helped in that crazy all nighter friday night to help get this mess put together and everyone who helped put it on or just help with moving around and stuff

K thats cecil in a nutshell ..... well not really but you get my point XD
