Description This was quite a challenge --literally!

A friend of mine once told me to stop drawing elves, or, moreover, bishounen/biseinen in general. I couldn't imagine precisely why he would carry this fascination with my dear hobby so I asked him, indeed, "Why?". His response was clear: I shouldn't draw anything that doesn't exist in real life.

"There's no such thing as fruity elves, or your fruity men."

Well! I decided to show him wrong. This was my senior-year (high school) art project, dedicated to those who really love what they do and are willing to attempt any endeavor to validate it ^_~. He took me months of work, effort, and real heart. He survived frustration, weariness, and, sadly, vandalizing as well. Artistically, it was a major journey. I don't have very much money, so I mostly built him from common materials, like joint compound and foam insulation, that I got from the local home improvements store. I really had to learn a lot about the materials I was attempting to employ, as I had never worked with many of them before, and I was operating on a scale that I had never previously tackled... not to mention the scope! It took construction, sculpting, tailoring, painting, whittling, and even hairdressing! Even so, I eventually persevered, much to my joy!

Sadly, this didn't win Best of Show at school (one of my paintings did instead), but as far as I'm concerned, he'll always be my most precious high-school memory. Thanks for looking!

Stats: 6'2" high, approximately 40 lbs (very light!).
Materials:
-Inner Materials: copper tubing, screws, newpaper, spray-foam insulation, joint compound, latex, fabric, staples, wire.
-Detail: Super Sculpey, glass, acrylic fingernails, stone, wire.
-Surface: spraypaint, acrylic, markers, yarn, ink, fingernail polish, glaze, white ink, horsehair.
-Decoration and Clothing: beads (stone/plastic --though I don't think you can see his earring), faux silk, faux suede, ribbon, leather.
PS- the flower is from my garden. It's my first of the season! I thought it really suited him well ^_^.
Photos splices together with border in Opencanvas 4 Plus.
Umber Yaarelia (c) L. Tyl (me) Character from "Dark Councilors."

I will upload photos in Scraps of this project in progress upon request ^_^. Thanks again!

Who says you're supposed to draw "only" what is in real life? Here is how I circumvent that little hole....
"I reject your reality and substitute my own." I LOVE this quote. I consider anything that pops into my head to be real. It makes life SOOOO much more interesting.

I'm a guy so I'm not into bishounen or anything. But I can appreciate the art skill involved. Heck, I wish I would have done something like this my senior year. My main project was a drawing of Unit 01 from Evangelion. [link] The picture quality sucks, it looks 200% better in real life.

This is a good statue. You should be really proud. It sucks that the world is filled with people who are jerks. I would NEVER even consider to vandalize anyone else's project.

beautiful! i know how you feel about art getting vandalised, at school i did a massive final piece for one of my projects, i spent months on it - a silk painting of collaberated bands and such, and somebody got a craft knife and slashed it. i had to do it all voer again, sketch it all and paint it again ><; sucked

this is very beautiful ^^

That is definitely the most awesome thing I have EVER seen (and I'm NOT joking). I guess your friend is pretty jealous that you were able to make such a thing, LIFESIZED!!!! Wow!! I really can't imagine how you kept the patience to make such a thing. It must be amazing to see something you've made yourself standing right next to you * is pretty jealous right now *. Did you give him a name?

Wow! that is absolutely amazing....

I have a few things that i did in my 3D art class in grade 12 (havent taken decent pictures yet ) but i know what it is like to work on a low budget... and material that you havent worked with... i never did anything on this scale... but i would like to try! Lifesized ... amazing *claps loudly*

and dont listen to anyone that decides to tell you not to draw things that dont exist.. imagination is sooooo important! Daydreaming comes in handy when you are bored.. hehe ... but not when you are writing papers...*sighs*

so i say again .. it is amazing, and beautiful .. and where do you keep it?

D'waaaa, that's awesome! Lifesize! Someone give you a high-paying artistic job right now!!

He came out beautiful! I absolutely love the hands, hair, and face.

Well, isn't the point of much art to create what we wish existed in real life? You keep doing your thing.

That guy is 6 feet?

My God woman! Someone from the Jim Henson Creature Studio needs to scout you and fast! Such a project through thick and thin shows great dedication. And he looks splendid. Yes, I said splendid because I don't use that word enough. He's also beautiful and wonderfully detailed.

*Hm... looks at some character sketches that I've alwasy wanted in life size.*

Most Excellent and Beautiful and Wonderful work! ^_^

You go girl.

holy crap, Over 6 feet tall? damn girl you deserve a ! or twelve. I heart how you did his hands, they are very graceful.
if I were to say anything to make it better, I would have used some color to emphasize the shape of the face and hands, but then again, it's not as important to paint shadow on something that's 6 feet tall.
