Description The Scapegoat Pokémon
"Though capable of digesting all kinds of vegetation to fuel its fiery breath, its favorite food is charcoal. It likes to rub the soot from its flames into its coat, eventually turning it completely black."
"Its flaming tail is strangely blue in color and is said to be an omen of bad luck. However, if a lost traveler treats a wild one well, it will keep them warm and safe as it guides them home."
"It has such a dour temperament that it is not only hard to train, but seems to make others more depressed. People used to release it into the wild hoping that their troubles would go away with it."

You chose the Fire Starter, Kinderlorn! Congratulations!

Once again, I'm posting the starters in order of evolutionary stage rather than number, so you get to see all three of the Kemet starter trio first, then their middle stages, and then their final stages. Then after that I'll resume the dex number order. Regardless, say hello to Kinderlorn!

In keeping with the general fanon held by the fakemon designer community, I decided on a Chinese Zodiac animal for the Fire starter for this region, and while people usually go with the snake because this is Africa after all, I'd already used a snake starter previously, so that left the horse, ox, and sheep/goat left. I picked the goat because the original plan for this line was a criosphinx derived from a retyping of one of my past entries for Smogon's Create-A-Pokémon art contests, but while it would've made perfect sense to base all three of the starters off of Egyptian mythical creatures, I ultimately struggled to think of what would fit for the Water starter and the choice I went with wasn't even Egyptian. Thankfully, I realized that this gave me the opportunity to explore a more complex theme with the final forms of this starter trio, and you'll see what I'm talking about when I get to them!

Kinderlorn himself is a double-whammy of terrible visual puns. The typing I had in mind led me to designate this lil' guy as the "cool" starter of the "cute, cool, and silly" trifecta, and the planning led to an opening I decided to take without a second thought. As such, I went all-in with the recent trope of Pokémon designs as characters rather than species and gave him a look akin to goth or emo fashion. An "emo kid ", if you will! As for the other, far more obvious pun, that one's more flavor-based as seen in the 'dex entries, and actually has a historical precedent in the form of a Biblical ritual that was started back to 24th century BC in Ebla, Syria. The idea was that your tribe picked two young goats, sacrificing one of them and sending the other away with your symbolic troubles banished along with it. This is the origin for the practice of scapegoating - i.e. singling out someone to burden with undeserved blame - and given the whole stereotypical emo shtick of struggling to be understood and having very low self-esteem, it actually fits Kinderlorn extremely well! This is the other reason for eschewing the criosphinx basis for the final form of this line in favor of something more apropos, though as for what it is, I'll explain that when I get around to actually posting it.

Moving on to the stats and such, I designed the Fire starter line to play into the strengths of this type rather than trying to come up with a suitable tank build like the previous starter - this is a fast special attacker with low defenses and a physical attack score that's somewhat "meh" though not unusable. To this end, I took the stat spread of fellow hoofed mammal Fire starter Tepig, which is 65/63/45/45/45/45, and switched the numbers around a little to get 45/45/45/65/45/63. The 63 Speed is just 2 points above Chimchar's 61, and 2 below Cyndaquil's 65, while the 45 HP, Defense, and Sp. Def. is only 1 above Chimchar's 44 for each, and 2 above Cyndaquil's 43 Defense. The BST of 308, same as Tepig's, remains the exact same.

As for the moveset, I referenced Chimchar, Tepig, and fellow goat Pokémon Skiddo, and went with 15 level-up moves total, same as Chimchar's. The Chimp Pokémon provided Leer, Ember, Taunt, Flame Wheel, Nasty Plot, Fire Spin, and Flamethrower; Tepig supplied Tackle, Tail Whip, Flame Charge, and Take Down; and Skiddo offered Bulldoze, Double-Edge, and Milk Drink of all things (a reference to goats of both genders being able to produce milk - yes, really). Add Inferno from the Charmander and Cyndaquil lines, and there you have it! Not much else to say about the competitive gameplay of this line, as I'm saving that for the final forms of all three of the starters.

I still need to make one small change to the art for the Water starter, but I'll finish the write-up for that one and post him either tonight or tomorrow morning. So stay tuned for that reveal by then!
